  1. I don't think so... who told you that?

  2. No they only fix them so breeding don't get out of hand, when you buy them they should already be done, here that is the law for pet shops.

  3. hahaha i dont think so, but that myth is kinda funny you have to admit.

  4. Female ferrets will suffer from oestrogen toxicity if they are not bred.

Essentially she comes onto heat and produces high levels of oestrogen which suppress her immune system and red blood cell production. The oestrogen levels stay high until she is mated.

A female ferret does not have to be bred to provent this. She can be spayed, or she can be mated by a vasectomised male of you do not want to spay her.

  5. males wont die if they havent been castrated but when they come in heat they will be aggressive and have horrible fur they also stink when theyre in heat.

if a female hasnt been spayed she can die, so if your not going to breed her its better to have her spayed.

  6. No, it's not true.

  7. yes it is true female ferrets get ovarian cancer if you dont breed her and yes she will die, and no boys wont die hope this helps

  8. no this is not true (yes they will DIE but not BECAUSE they didnt have babies and ferrets that have babies wont live forever, everything dies eventually) how much it costs? idk probably not too much but its probably not to little either just call and ask your vet

  9. It's not true that female ferrets will die if they don't breed. It is safer to have a female spayed if you are not planning on breeding her because they can have complications when they aren't spayed. It really doesn't matter if a male ferret is neutered or not. Most ferrets that you buy from chain pet stores (i.e. Petco) or large breeders will already have their kits spayed/neutered and descented. As far as I'm concerned those should be the only places you should buy from. Good luck. They're awesome pets to have.

  10. The only bit of truth in this is that many female ferrets that are unfixed go into heat and then don't come out of it if they aren't bred. This causes hormone problems/anemia and sometimes death. I don't know that this is true for all unfixed females as I've never had one. Just heard it from word of mouth. For desexing you'll be probably looking at 40-90 for a male and 100-200 for a female.

  11. Males won't die but if you put an unaltered male with another ferrets while in rut the male will most likely kill the other ferret. Females will die from aplastic anemia. But luckily all ferrets sold in pet stores come altered already so no need to worry. If you got one from a breeder you can have a vasectomized male mate with her which will make her think she is pregnant and will come out of heat or you can get her spayed.

  12. Females will die from anemia if they are not spayed.  They will go into heat, and will not leave it until they are bred with.

Small animal spays usually are $75-300 depending on your area and the vet.  Exotic animal vets are going to be best, but charge more.  Vets that aren't specialized in exotics can probably do it, but you run the risk of them not being experienced.  Best option is to call the vet you use now, and ask them.  (If for some reason you don't have a vet, now would be a good time to find one?)

But no, it's no excuse to make them have babies.  Just get them spayed/neutered instead, and they will be fine.
