I mean, for example, here in Italy obtaining just a PPL to a flight school near my home, costs about 14500 US dollars is there the same?to achieve the much desired ATP(L) you need a very lot of money, and excluding the separate specific aircraft training you can spend about 150000 dollars...

  1. Ever since 9/11, the US economy has been going down, which means that things cost less and people make less.  However, Europe's banks are flourishing right now, so things cost more and people make more.  So yes, European flight school is more expensive than U.S. flight school

  2. Yes, it is much less expensive.  In the US, it generally costs about $8000 (5500 Euros)  USD to earn your private pilot certificate. To complete your ICAO-recognized Commercial certificate, with instrument and multiengine ratings would cost about $25,000 (17,000 Euros) to complete. I have worked with 2 flying students who came to the US specifically to earn their pilot certificate. It was cheaper to do it here (counting travel, housing and ancillary expenses) than it was to do it in their home country of England.

  3. The price of fuel is so much cheaper.  Also there are more aircraft and flight schools to keep competition up and prices down.

  4. When you compare fuel prices, availability of small training aircraft, total number of schools, less restrictive flight environment and finally... The exchange rate between the US Dollar and the Euro... Yes, American flight schools are less expensive
