  1. No.  A person doesn't just get classified as learning diasbled because they are not academically successful.  While lack of academic success is what usually gets a child referred for evaluation, they must meet the criteria in order to qualify for special education.  For a learning disability there must be a significant discrepancy between their IQ and their achievement...basically IQ is the indicator of what level they shold be able to perform at and achievement is the level at which they are actually performing.

  2. Nope.  If a student is coming to school everyday, and turning in their work, and still failing-- then there would be a reason to look at testing for Special Education.  But in general, most kids who fail multiple years have other issues going on!

  3. well, if they actauly got held back two years because they were struggling then I would have some testing done to see if they have learning disabilites for sure but they could just get held back because of laziness

  4. um. no.   not without the testing required.   learning disabilities are based upon a discrepancy between IQ and performance.   So laziness could be the cause of being held back two years.   So there's a lot more that goes into a label than that.
