In Adelaide, we have just come to an end of a 15 day heatwave (hopefully) Temps have been on average 38deg celcius.

Yesterday I found a frog in my garden, Is this a good sign that the heat may have not damaged as much as we thought ?

  1. yes i t is a good sign hope it survives the heat !

  2. Usually having frogs around is a great sign of having a supportive eco-system or environment.

Given that you have had this heatwave, make sure that there are containers with water for the frog/s to cool off in...nothing too deep and even if the frog is passing through your garden it will certainly appreciate being able to cool off.

  3. Many frogs mean a healthy Eco system-

    plenty of plants and humidity

you can still have bad soil

Most jungles have bad soils .only the top few inches is pure organic compost.

But there are many frogs not just one

We got loads 0f frogs in my tropical garden

the original soil was sand and gravel

in the last 7 years all the existing top soil has been build.

  4. Frogs generally set up abode in fertile, warm and moist soil, where the ground water table is generally just a couple of meters below the surface. So thats what the soil in your garden is if you found a frog.

However it may also mean that the frog was migrating to a better place as your area is drying up because of all the heat!

  5. Frogs are considered to be the litmus paper of the environment. When the environment becomes degraded the frogs are the first to start dying off.

The frog is to the environment what the canary is to the mine.

    Regards

    John

  6. the first answerer is right. frogs are considered as indicators if the environment is still healthy or not. they are called with some term but i forget it so i would just call them as indicators. if they are still there, it means their environment is healthy. take care the environment and maybe more frogs will come there

    have a nice day!
