No, air bags are designed so that when you have an accident, they come out of the steering wheel and stop you from being plastered to the inside of the windscreen from inertia.

However, air bags can cause death and serious injuries so it can knock you out. But that depends on if your using a seatbelt, your seating position, closeness to the airbag and your height. Thats why they advice children under a certain age shouldnt sit in the front passenger seat because the air bag could possible open in their face.

---Anyone under 60lbs should not sit in the front seat of a vehicle equipped with a passenger side airbag. The airbag could actually cause more harm than help to such a small person.
