Is it true that if you dont swallow pills your swallowing glands will stop working?

My mom told me this when I refused to take the pills that you swallow.

It's true.  If you don't swallow the medicine your mom gives you, your swallowing glands will atrophy and eventually you won't even be able to swallow ice cream.

There is NO such thing as a swallowing gland!  I'm a Registered Nurse and have studied a LOT of anatomy and physiology and there is no such gland.

that doesn't make any sense. you swallow food when you eat so not swallowing pills cant make you lose the ability to swallow.

No way. She probably just says that because she wants you to take those pills. Even if that were true you could still keep them working by swallowing food. I went 2 years without swallowing a pill before.

We don't have "swallowing" glands and if we did they would not stop "working" because you don't swallow your pills. The muscles and nerves used to swallow are used when you swallow your food and drinks. On a different note, you should listen to your mom and take the pills if you need them.
