  1. Yup you use more gas because the alternator and motor has to work a little harder to get the AC cold and also to run the fan that is blowing the cold air.

Debi is also  right about having the windown up at high speed because the draft can slow your car down by disrupting airflow.

It's more effiecent to have the window down at low speed though

  2. Air conditioning costs fuel mileage. Anyone who tells you different is throwing all the known and accepted laws of physics and thermodynamics into the trash. Depending on the vehicle, the amount it costs varies. It won't cost as much fuel economy on a big V8, but on a small 4 cylinder, it can cost a lot.

  3. Probably not enough to make it worth driving without a/c.

  4. no, it is not true. your engine will constantly pump fuel for consumption no matter what. you use up more power from your car batt though.

  5. if the air is off you get better fuel mileage

  6. Energy is energy.  It has to come from some where.  The AC in your car needs a lot of energy and even runs off your drive belt.  When you turn the AC on you will have less power to your engine and will have to give more gas to keep the same speed.

So you use more gas when running the AC.  With new cars it is much less noticeable.

Using your head lights or even your radio will use more gas.  The amount of gas will be very small, but always remember the energy has to come from some where. Nothing is free.

  7. It uses  more gas to drive with your A.C. on, however studies found it is cheaper (uses less gas) to use the A.C. rather than putting your windows down when on the freeways or interstates. At high speeds, the wind drag through the windows actually uses more gas than the A.C.

  8. No !!!  you have a bigger drag on the motor so you would use more.

  9. if you drive under 45 mph then you should have the air off . over 45 and you should have the air on.

  10. no, your engine works harder to drive the a/c so it costs you fuel. The best way is to keep your car cool, in the shade before you use it, then keep the a/c on low as you drive, windows up. WHen you get in a hot car and crank the air, you are really making that 6c or 4c engine work and that costs you.
