Is it true that if you fail the APFT three times you can be chaptered out of the Army?

I thought that if you failed you got flagged and cant do things like reenlist or be promoted etc until you pass and the flag is lifted.

  1. If you consistently fail, yeah, they can chapter you out. I've never heard of any kind of magic number to it, though...and I've seen guys fail WAY more than three times and still be around. It may be there as a guideline, but it certainly isn't a set-in-stone standard.

    And yeah, the flag thing is what I've seen a lot more often.


  2. Different units may chapter you out based on THEIR commander's criteria. But in every unit you can be flagged and not allowed/placed on any orders for advancement classes, promotions, etc. So get in shape and stay that way. I failed my last one due to the run. Running just isn't my thing unless you put a soccer ball in front of me, lol.

  3. Yes, you could be, it's up to the commander.

  4. Most units will just pt you to death because it makes them look like they cant train you flagging is most likely to happen
