Is it true that if you get the iPhone 3G, you can't get rid of the data plan until your contract ends?

I want to get one, but I do not want to be forced into keeping a data plan if I don't want to... I understand that I will have to renew my 2 year contract for voice, but is data required? I don't have to keep it with my current phone.

  1. No, AT&T requires you to have the unlimited data plan for the fist 6 months because chances are you are going to want to check out all the features.

    You are going to want the data plan anyway because your bill would be a FORTUNE without it!
