Is it true that if you join a yahoo fantasy football (american) league last you will get 1st draft pick?

So like if there's a 12 team league and there's 11, and you join in as the 12th (last team) you will automatically get 1st draft pick?

Not necessarily....its usually a random order that is decided just prior to the draft....unless the commisoner in your league has messed with the order

Public leagues are random.

Custom leagues are random unless the commissioner has selected ordered and preset the draft order.
