It used to be the registered voters. Now states do it by your drivers license. If you have one they have your current address so they can notify you more easily.

So don't think that by not voting, you can escape.  Besides, it's good to do some jury duty.  Most employers reimburse for it, and if you had to go to court, would you want a jury of people who had nothing better to do?

Juries, in order to be fair, need more than unemployed people or senior citizens.

When you sit in a jury pool - usually 30 or so people, the two attorneys interview people in sequence, asking questions to determine if there's some reason you should not sit.  They also like to identify the ones they consider favorable to their case.

Each side is allowed a few opportunities, perhaps 3, to exclude, so they are careful not to waste their objections.  Once a jury is seated, usually 12 + 2 alternates, the pool is released.  Most courts make you sit 2 or 3 days or so in the pool.  If you do not get a trial, you are free to go.  Get on a jury and you can be there 3 days, 3 week,s or 3 months - depends on the case!

It's a good experience to see how the Justice system works.  you may need it some day, so be eager to participate.
