  1. You must have gotten some silly ideas from listening to Bush

  2. No they will not get killed. But can be imprisoned for leaving illegally. But Cubans have left Cuba legally and have been able to come back. Cubans can get permission to leave under special circumstances and when they come back home, they are only allowed to arrive at certain airports otherwise they can be fined (personal experience, when I landed in Cuba, one officer thought I was Cuban and needed to see my passport before going through customs...as I'd learned, Cubans arriving in Cuba were not allowed to come through that specific airport or they would be fined). So there's one proof that they can leave and come back.

Also, if a Cuban marries a non-Cuban, they are free to leave Cuba and are able to return to Cuba for visits. I also personally know of those who have done that.

Others apply to leave the country to see family in other countries to either live permanently or just visit...again, I personally know of those are in the midst of that.

Other ways of leaving the island are for study purposes, business connections, training programs, etc.

Most who leave don't usually go back to live....although one Cuban who left Cuba to get married couldn't handle the lifestyle in North America and actually CHOSE to come back to Cuba.

There are many thoughts and opinions on this matter. It's an interesting question you asked.

  3. where the h**l did you hear that? lol.

If they leave legally to a place that is not the U.S., then absolutely they can do as they please.

  4. That is completely wrong.

(As a example, my wife, who is Cuban, has travelled to England (twice), Tenerife and the US, all within the last 6 years. )

It is true that Cubans require permission to leave the country - but that is generally less restrictive than the permission that US citizens need to visit Cuba.

Many Cubans try to travel to the US illegally - as to many Haitians, Mexicans, Dominicans .....

If a Cuban tries to leave illegally and is caught, they may suffer some restrictions, but many do not get any punishment. They certainly aren't killed !!!! (The only executions that I know of in the last 10 years were three armed hijackers, who had threaten to kill hostages).

  5. Cubans certainly can leave the country but it takes time.

There 's some red tape for Cubans to leave the country.

First they need an invitation from a person living outside of Cuban (a foreigner). This invitation is stated in an official act by a Cuban notary. Than they must apply for a passport , have a medical examination certificate, show their airplane ticket (RETURN FLIGHT) and apply for an exit visa.

The person who invites the Cuban has to sign a document stated that he/she takes the Cuban under charge and take full responsibility for the Cuban during his stay abroad.

They are not killed but when they leave the country illegal they get a severe punishment up to several years in jail..

Cuba reacts very tough when there are hijackings involved.

Four years ago a few armed Cubans tried to hijack a local ferry in Havana to escape to Miami but were caught and excecuted. But this are rare exceptions.
