Is it true that in Ireland you can shoot your boyfriend in the knee?

Can't believe you would even ask this question.  I suppose Legally \Blonde as a title says a lot! (sorry to all you intelligent blondes out there).  

The IRA used to use "knee capping" shooting in the knee as a form of punishment.  However, it most definitely not legal.  Shooting anyone in any part of their body is not legal here either.  We don't live in the dark ages.

I get scared about some peoples perception of Ireland.
