  1. Yes, it leaves from Tenterden and goes to the lovely Bodium Castle. It is relatively cheap, and on a sunny day is very beautiful. Tenterden is equadistant from Maidstone and Ashford.

  2. The "mini" Flying Scotsman type engine is in service on the "Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway" which  is a privately owned railway open to the public and is built to one-third full size.

The full-sized one - The Kent and East Sussex Railway is a full-sized railway - it was once part of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway - but as it is a "preserved" line open to the public, its speed is limited to a leisurely 25 m.p.h. maximum in order to comply with current regulations.

  3. It is indeed true, on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. A good day out for all ages.

  4. There are no steam hauled trains on the main line.  The Romney Hythe and Dymchurch light railway runs regular services using one fifth scale steam locos on a narrow gauge track.

  5. Try the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. I cannot remember the scale of the train, but it is well worth a visit. The last time I traveled on them was in the late 1980's.

  6. You must mean the RH&DR which was built as a main line in miniture. Most of the loco's are scaled down main line types and can ratle along at 20mph woth a heavy train. Not bad for a 15" gauge line.

This railway is 80 years old this year and JUly 14/15th has a host of special events lined up.

  7. There is a steam train at Tenterden and one at Romney to Hythe.

The tenterden one is full size and sometimes does a Thomas the tank engine day and the Romney/Hythe is a smaller one.
