  1. the earth is not straight up and down, the axis is slanted.  so one hemisphere is closer to the sun (summer), and the other hemisphere further away from the sun (winter).

  2. That is true.

The Southern half of Earth has its seasons the opposite way to the northern half.   So in Australia it is Summer at Christmas time and Winter in the middle of the year.  The opposite for the northern hemisphere.

The closer you get to the equator the less defined the seasons become.   The top end of Australia has only two seasons - the wet and the dry.    During the wet there is so much rainful there is often large flooding throughout the plains.

  3. Yes, very much.  Summer in the US is at the same time as winter in Australia./

  4. Yes.

Due to the tilt of the Earth, when the northern hemisphere is enjoying summer, the southern hemisphere is in winter.  June, July and August are the coldest months in Australia for example.

Much of the tropical world only have 2 seasons, wet and dry.  Because they are close to the equator, the seasonal changes in temperature are minor, but monsoonal rains dominate the seasons.  For example, Darwin in northern Australia has a wet season from November to March, and receives about 90% of the yearly rain and lots of cyclones(aka hurricanes in the Atlantic) during this period.
