Is it true that it is better to recycle plastc bottles without the cap on?

Don't forget that just as you should remove the tops from plastic bottles, you should do the same for glass. Use the corks to adorn a hat, recycle metal caps with your tins.

Also, when they compress the bottles and they have the caps on, they can shoot off and possibly injure someone

Plastic bottles should be recycled without the cap because the cap is a different type of plastic to the bottle and needs to be separated. My local recycling center has a separate bin for bottle tops.

Not really.  The proper, or more environmentally friendly way of recycling plastic bottles is like this:

Take the bottle, and squish it.  You can stomp on it w/ your foot or even squishit w/ your hands.  THis will make it 'smaller' and more compact. It will get the air out.  Then quickly take the cap and s***w it on.  This way the plasic bottle will not re-inflate let's say.  When you recycle this way your plastic bottle will take up less room, and more bottles can be recycled in one area.
