  1. Of course both options are availble in Italy, burial is still the most "fashionable" form but cremation is also getting more common in this last years.

However it is true that cremation is still not an easy choice also because there are still few cremation centres, especially in the south of Italy; till a couple of years ago the centre in Florence was the nearest for the southern regions.

Now there are centres in Rome and also near to Naples.

  2. True.  They just pile their dead people in the streets.   *head shake*

Where do you GET an idea like that??

  3. Actually, Italy does allow cremation. I'll try and find a link for you.

I think this idea started because up until about 20 years ago, Roman Catholics were not supposed to becremated, and because Italy was such a predominantly Catholic country, it was assumed cremation would not be permitted.

However, Italy is a secular government and cremation is a legal option.

As I said, I'll find a link and get back to you on this in a bit.

OK, here's a good link with lots of handy details of who to contact, etc:

    http://italy.usembassy.gov/acs/emergency...

It is for use in an emergency, but the information would also apply in the case of pre-arranegments. You'll notice some funeral directors are listed on the page. These are the ones the US Embassy deals with, so they'll probably have English speaking staff, etc.

I sure hope your coming trip to Italy is not going to be filled with sorrow :-(

    Take care!
