  1. It's relatively easy.  It is more difficult than moving to the United States. However, if someone with a Canadian visa is a skilled worker who is fluent in English and French and is able to obtain gainful employment and living accommodations as well as passing a citizenship test, they could become a Canadian within three years.

It is more difficult to be an illegal resident.  Because Canada offers so many more social services, including free health care, by nature they are forced to prosecute illegal immigration much more vigilantly.  In the United States, illegal immigrants from Mexico are fed and transported to Mexico at the U.S.'s expense.  Because Canada does not have an adjacent border with Mexico, illegal immigrants in Canada are imprisoned and have to return to their country of origin at their own expense.  Also, in the United States, there is usually a substantial Hispanic population incarcerated, so people from Mexico are usually protected by their peers if they are incarcerated.  There are many fewer Hispanics in Canada's correctional system.  There have been situations if incarcerated in a Canadian facility minority groups have been targeted for victimization as with any prison.

  2. Becoming a resident in Canada or the US is never easy. There are hundreds of thousands of applicants wanting to gain residency, and there is a huge waiting list for that to happen.

The only real way to gain residency the quickest is through marriage to a citizen of either country.

Edit: To the answer below me.

    1. Canada's health system is not "free"...It comes out of your tax dollars. So for ex...If you go to the store and buy a pack of gum, portions of money taxed on that gum goes towards federal and provincial health.

    2. It is not easy to migrate to Canada anymore. Maybe in 1975 it was. My mother came here in the 70's and sponsored herself. Now you either have to be a skilled worker...(over 300,000 skilled applicants currently waiting) or be married to a Canadian Citizen. I have been offered money on three separate occasions to marry a foreigner for residency. Now after all of that, I hardly believe Canada is easy to migrate to. Yes its not as strict as the US, but nevertheless its still very difficult.

  3. No, Canada uses a point system and only admits 1 out of every 20 applications they receive. Go to the immigration website and complete the point questionnaire. You can see if you would have enough points to apply.
