It might be an old wives tale, but Ive heard that if you measure a child's height at two years old (or some such age) you can calculate how tall the child will become as an adult by doubling that two year old height. Is that true? I cant find anything about it online.

  1. My son was exactly 3 feet at 2 and now at 8 is 4'7".

He is very tall for his age and I do believe he will grow taller then 6 ft.

My daughter was around 2 1/2 ft at 2 and now at 4 is only 3' 5".

    I don't think she will be more then 5' 6". Although I'm 5' 8".

We shall see in 10-14 years.

  2. that gives an estimate of how big the child will grow to be.

  3. Well, there's obviously variable ranges, but that's a pretty accurate estimate.  My 2-year-old is almost 3 feet tall (he's 34-1/2 inches tall), and most of the men on both sides of our families are about 6 feet, so I wouldn't be surprised that my 2-year-old grows to be 6 feet tall.  I was tiny as a 2-year-old according to my baby book, so I'm not at all surprised that I've remained tiny.

  4. Well my daughter is 20 months and 37 inches tall, and is estimated to be 6'2 as adult using other methods. So it sounds right to me, I'll let you know in about 16 years, lol. Good luck!

  5. Yes it is actually true.  I just finished reading it in my Early Childhood Education class.  Sometime they can be taller or shorter, but on average they are twice as tall when they are an adult from age 2.

  6. no. people who are 6 feet tall wouldnt be 3 feet tall at age 2...  its all genetics

  7. Yes, on the 2nd birthday most people will be double that height at adult age

  8. parental height was calculated by adding the father's height to the mother's height, dividing by two and then adding or subtracting seven centimeters (about 3 inches) based on gender.
