when my little brother was little, he would be in his room talking to the air in front of him. just as if someone was there. he would sleep walk to the exact same spot everynight. he would say "look mom darren has a owie on his head" at home sometimes and point to the air next to him. similar expieriances with other names and body parts. just like the sixth sense in random places other than home.

(the darren one was at home though) we have never known anyone named darren.

same with my little sister. but nothing with me and my other brother.

and i also heard on the radio other expieriances with mothers and thier kids.

i at the age of 4 and 5 and 6, he didnt really know what imaginary friends were and probably didnt think of that.

what do you think?

  1. Yes I truly believe that children can see spirits, angels etc.and if they are supported not ridiculed by their parents/care givers they will grow into intutive adults full of love and hope. They are called indigo or crystal children,

  2. maybe its true

  3. So, far I vote Hannas as best answer she presents both possible explanations with no bias.

There have been some reported cases of children seeing spirits that do match the descriptions of old family members they had never seen or even identifying them in old photographs. However, this may have problems like the family making the description fit someone and showing the child the photograph with leading questions like "is this who you saw?" This just needs further refinement and controls.

I also agree that children have very active imaginations and many include invisible friends. However, since we can't measure or detect a spirit how do we separate a spirit from an invisible friend? The bias in science is to go with what you think you know. Now how you go about proving something is imaginary is a little like trying to prove something does not exist. You can at best say I don't see any evidence that my child's friend is real.

Keep in mind I have no evidence to show you that I had a dream last night (or that anyone dreamed last night) but that does not provide evidence that people do not dream or that I did not dream last night.

Also, conducting even social science research with children is a nightmare regarding release forms, legal issues and so forth.

Some of my rambling thoughts ;)

  4. Children are incapable of forming a comprehensive idea of reality.  My nephew can tell you how an internal combustion engine operates one minute and start talking to his pokemon cards the next.  They are creative and developing.  They do not always have a firm grasp on what is going on around them.

  5. No but kids are imaginative..They have a great ability to pretend. They're silly and childish. Then again they're supposed to be.Fortunately, most of them grow out of it.

  6. Nope.  That would be an imaginary friend.

  7. Does he remember any of this stuff now? I would love to hear what he has to say about it.

They say that children are very receptive to the other side, just having come from there it is all still so fresh and new to be earthbound again.

  8. most kids have imaginary friends at one point or another.

  9. yeah, children are able to see spirits. Also they are able to see auras. they learn not to see it when their parents tell them it's just their imagination..

my litttle sister always talks about Grandma. who died before my sister was born. I believe that my grandma is around her.

  10. No, they can't do that any more than adults can. In fact, there is no scientific evidence for the existence of spirits in the first place. Instead, little children have amazing imaginations and it's certainly well known that they can create their own imaginary friends, and perhaps at that young age they really can't describe to you the difference between an imaginary and real friend.

  11. It sounds exactly like an imaginary friend.  I used to have one as a child, and I remember talking to the air.  If no one else sees it, it probably an immaginary friend.  Your sister could have also been just mimicing your brother.  Nothing to suggest supernatural activity.  The thing is, when looking at suppernatural behavior, all other explinations have to be considered here so as not to be merely tracking down lies and myth.

  12. i'll share a sorta interesting story told by my lecturer in my highschool few weeks ago. The story goes like this:

A mother was bringing her daughter, aged five (if i'm not mistaken) to the nearby park. It happened that this mother passed a house that held a funeral that time. The mother did not notice this, but suddenly, the daughter cried aloud when they stopped directly at the entrance of that house. The mother is puzzled about this, and tried to soothe the crying daughter. It seem that the daughter is looking into the house, crying loudly. The mum got spooked when she saw the funeral held in the house. A mattress was thrown, window wide open...

From that story, I can say that children tend to be over-sensitive to such unseen forces, in this case, spirits. They can talk to this spirits and the adult usually say that their son/daughter is talking to an imaginary friend. In other cases, they can sense things that adults don't most of the time. So i gotta say is true although no scientific evidence prove so.

  13. No, but they do have great imaginations.  I know I did.

  14. Nope

  15. i do not wanna get involved with devils or spirits or anything like that so i hope not.

  16. Nope, it's a mixture of overactive imaginations and reactions to the various chemicals in medicines and foodstuffs that they consume.

I vividly remember regularly watching a green monster climb over the fence from my neighbour's house. Obviously it wasn't real, but I saw it and I believed it. It turns out it was directly linked to some cough medicine / nutrient stuff my mum was giving me (research proved it to cause hallucinations in kids)

Just think of all the E-numbers / additives / preservatives / general c**p that we feed our kids, both knowingly and unknowingly.

  17. I believe children dream of past lives I did it when I was young.I remember my dreams because I talked about them and it was about things I would not have known about at that age.

  18. When i was little i had three imaginary friends. Their names were Tada and Nemo (not like finding Nemo, it was just a name), and also Catherine, which is my mothers maiden name.  Then my little sister took my imaginary friend Catherine, so i didnt think about her anymore. Tada and Nemo were my children, but they were teenagers. I would talk to them, but through my brain. I believed that they were like angels, watching over me.

  19. They have not been taught not to see them that young.....Look up the history of the area around your house see if there is a connection to any one named Darren.

  20. The theory is that they are open and unbiased in mind so they do not filter it out

or they have not quite figured how to separate reality from fantasy.

  21. well it can be their imagination, and also they can see spirits and talk to them....there has been quite a few documented cases where children can see spirits, mostly when they describe the person they see, and it works out to be an old family member they have never seen, like their pop, etc...example...a child is friends with a nice man, they talk and play together, the child learns of his name, could be robby..when the child starts to tell you of his friend robby, his name and what he looks like, and straight away you know who this man is...say your childs dads brother was robby who passed away years before your child was born...plenty of these cases have been known to happen...and its not always a family member they will see...plenty of people have linked up the person who their child has as an imaginary friend....so it does happen...and sometimes it is just an imaginary friend they have made up...i would have an opened mind about it..
