2,400 white doves had been released during the opening ceremony. Most of them stayed around the stadium and did not fly away..

11 were sitting on the cauldron and when the flame was lit they were burnt, alive, but not for long.

i'm not sure about it. was it because of the lighting of the cauldron part, where many doves were actually in the rim of the cauldron?
