Is it true that metro pcs will activate any phone? even if its not theirs?

i have a metro phone and i hate it. all the cool phones are by verizon and sprint but their plans are so expensive. i heard on the radio that metro pcs will activate ANY phone even if it is not by metro pcs. is it true that i can purchase ANY phone and they will activate it? please help me also is there a fee if we already have a plan by metro? thank you! <3

try http://www.metropcs.com and search for sprint phones.. that might help. I will check also. I need to know this too
