Yes, I checked on wikipedia and I looked around on the internet but couldn't find any info. I picked this up in Guevara's "The Motorcycle Diaries" where he is told that since the genitalia of the female boto resemble those of human female genitalia so closely, the native males would rape the dolphins. After intercourse the dolphin would have to be killed since strong contractions in the vaginal area would prevent the man from pulling his p***s out.

  1. In a traditional Amazon River myth, at night a Boto becomes a handsome young man who seduces girls,[2] impregnates them, then returns to the river in the morning to become a Boto again. This dolphin shapeshifter is called an encantado. It has been suggested that the myth arose partly because dolphin genitalia bear a resemblance to that of humans. In the local area, there are also tales that it is bad luck to kill a Boto. Legend also states that if a person makes eye contact with a Boto, that person will have nightmares for the rest of his or her life.

  2. So, Hmm, er, are you thinking of vacationing in Brazil this summer? It is winter there, rather mild in the Amazon basin. Seriously, I think this author was creating fiction. When you can't find any scientific backing, it is probably because there is none. Interesting though.

  4. people have been known to do even stranger things before,so IDK!
