  1. its a very ugly car

  2. Neons do not suck. It`s all about how you take care of it.I have a 95 neon that has a 163xxx miles on it manual. Replaced a clutch, radiator and a regular maintenance on time.I got it when it had 71xxx and never had a some big problems with it.They are a cheap cars but they are good on gas and reliable transportation.TAKE CARE OF YOUR CAR, AND A CAR WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU (always remember that)

  3. The resale is horrible, its not worth upgrading, good starter car, one of the more reliable american cars, but I'd never buy one! And even if it is the srt4, which is the sports car with the beefed up engine, the overall quality in engineering and workmanship is not the same as a honda civic or toyota corolla, that is why the resale is so much higher on the civic and corolla. I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra SE, which is a 2.0 Liter 145hp motor, and my buddy has a 2003 dodge neon SRT4 which is a 2.4 Liter 215hp motor, and he only beats my by just over a car length in a 1/4 mile. Now just imagine if i had and extra 70 horsepower?

They are nice to buy slightly used because it is significantly cheaper than new, and I have to congratulate it on its outstanding reliability. But good luck reselling it. Also, outstanding gas mileage 2.4L 215hp motor that gets 29city/36hwy? Not bad at all!

  4. Yes they do...........................

  5. I got a 98 4 door for a work commuter...It gets about 30 mpg. I ve put about 35,000 miles on the car the last year and a half...I hate small cars...But I,ve had not one problem...It,s now got about140,000 miles on the car...It,s alot cheaper than driving my duramax!I say they don,t suck for a cheap commuter...

  6. I'll raise the BS flag a 145hp  Sentra running the 1/4 with a SRT4.  Either you're full of c**p, or your friend doesn't have an SRT4.  There is a huge difference a SRT4 running low 14s vs a Sentra that is lucky to run high 15s.

I wasn't always a fan of Neons.  The neon represents a time when Chrysler had no performance car other then a viper.  It was too costly to make a neon fast and the avenger has no potential behind the auto.  I hung on to my turbo shadows for my fast cars.  That was the 90s.

Now that I own a neon as a daily driver I find parts are cheap.  The cars are just a hair harder to work on compared to my shadow.  Neons have always handled well, something I enjoy every day.  I bought my neon in 2006.

I bought my neon as the 3rd owner.  I have all the receipts from the 1st owner.  He paid good money to keep his neon in tip top shape.  The 2nd owner owned the car for less then a year, yet did the most damage. Now that the neon is under my wing, it has been 98% reliable and faster.

The second owner gets upset seeing a car he felt was junk run so reliable with me.  That shows if you take care of your car, it will take care of you.

  7. no ,at least not all of them do,those was good cars ,its just that some of them did cause a lot of problems and people branded them as being bad cars,i have owned one and didn't have to do anything to it but replace the head gasket and one transmission, and both things was bad on it when i got it,and i drove it for 4 years after that, without doing anything else to it,the ones that i see still on the road are doing really good, they was cheap built cars, and priced cheap so they would be affordable, but that doesn't mean they was all junk,i service one that has well over 300 thousand miles on it and its still doing really good,if you find a good one and take care of it,it should last you as long as any other car would, and they are extremely cheap on gas when their running right, good luck.

  8. Dodge Neons are cheap cars.

They are in the same category as cars like the Ford Focus. The thing is they are just $10,000 new or so and as they say you get what you pay for.

Not all of them are that bad though. The Dodge Neon SRT-4 is great as far as front wheel drive sports cars go. It has a 2.4 liter turbocharged engine which has made 1000hp and 235mph or so modified.

  9. They do not.  They are reliable, quick and have good fuel economy - especially with a manual transmission.

The A/C compressor is not good.

  10. They are a fine car as long as they are taken care of, the majority of the time they aren't, I have seen a very large amount of lower end engine work, very pricey stuff, but nothing like that until after about 125,000, respectable, I have also seen a neon come in with 250,000 miles needed new struts, so its like any other car, take car of it, and it will take care of you.

  11. The city that my husband works in bought all Neons for it's gov. employees and they found that Neons had many problems.  Transmissons, Head gaskets, and fluid leaks on every one of them. Needless to say, they will never get them again.  These vehicles go up for auction after a couple of years and no one wanted them.  They turned out to be a bad buy.
