  1. There really is no ideal alternative energy source. Nuclear has the advantage of being a constant source, unlike wind or solar. Wind and solar both require a way to store energy, namely batteries. But neither nuclear, solar or wind will soon replace petroleum based fuels. Even if engineers develop an electric car, an electric jumbo jet is unlikely. So we will need liquid fuels for the foreseeable future. It simply is not possible to eliminate radioactive waste from the nuclear power process. But nuclear is the best alternative based simply on logistics.

  2. It's one of the best for the short term.  A breeder reactor, especially a fast breeder reactor, does this recycling.  Some countries use them, but uranium is cheap enough that breeders are not financially attractive.  Sound familiar?

  3. Maybe, but I'm not sure. Cos we are looking for many new sources of energy day-by-day. Who knows that in the future if we can find another better energy to replace nuclear energy? You know, nuclear energy is wonderful, but it's dangerous, too. It causes many type of hazardous chemical diseases that can eventually make lots of people die if there's a leak of radiological agents.

  4. Proponents say yes - it's reliable, relatively save and emits no hothouse gasses.

Given the radioactive waste disposal concerns, opponents say it's akin to building a house without a bathroom.

I guess the jury is still out on this question.

And, no, with the present technology, a zero radioactive waste reactor isn't available.

  5. Did you know that a grandfather clock is indirectly solar powered?

Photosynthesis converts sunlight into energy which powers the grass.

    The grass powers the cow.

The cow is converted into cheeseburgers.

The cheeseburgers power the guy who winds the grandfather clock.

Every form of energy that you can name is indirectly solar energy, with the exception of nuclear energy.

Wind - powered by the sun.

Hydroelectric - powered by the sun.

Coal, oil, natural gas - solar energy stored chemically.

Geothermal energy is not solar. It is derived from the decay of radioactive materials in the ground.

So, take the radioactive materials out of the ground, use them for a while, and put them back into the ground.

Done properly, nuclear energy will always be cleaner than burning oil or (shudder) coal.

The Earth is the most dense of all the planets due to its high concentration of radioactive materials.
