  1. yes it is true that olden age farmere comes to know that when this rain will come.My grandfather was also a farmer and our native place is punjab so i m quite familear with farming and i m a 20yrs guy and i would like to tell u that my grandpa use to estimate by watching the clouds before a number of days from which day the rain will fall. There r many other ways to know bout it some people can make a estimate by looking at or breaseing air that when will rain can come. the one more way is to estimate by the moisture in the air

  2. yes it is true that old farmers can predict weather to many extent. todays generation does not believe on out mythology. but out mythology is not myths to many extent. older people found a special way to remember the knowledge through muhavre, idioms etc. they know how to read the movement stars. what are the result of that movement. They know that direction air of movement what result. our sanatan or "hindu" religion is not only set of rule which are made someone but it is a result many research which laid to common people in the form of idioms.

  3. Yes it is truely said & its a fact Bcoz the old farmers are very-very close to mother nature. They are totally dependent on the weather.

A good weather makes their crops grow good & bad weather destroys it.

  4. "Weather " is the ONLY topic when two strangers who meet each other  just start talking about. Not only farmers but fisherman, sailors were also  good weatherman.  They predict weather more accuretly and precisely. Here are some examples:

[1] Arabian merchants /sailors in the quest of finding new places for trade and business, know about the SW monsoon well.  The utilised the SW wind, ventured into Arabian sea and landed in the west coast.

This is one of the main reasons that "Isalam" spread through coastal area to inland in India.  Furhter SW monsoon is the main reason for spread of 'ISALAM' unto Indonesia.

[2] Similarly the great sailors of the ancient world from Greek landed in India using SW monsoon winds even during 300 B.C.  This helped the spared of christianity in India.

[3] The "Thiruvilayadalpuranam" talks about the devasation places like  "Kapadapuram", which was the HQ of ancient Pandia Tamil kingdom which was devastated by Tsunami.  There were historical evidence to support these. There were evidence in Tamil litreary works.

[4] Olden day farmers collect the rainfall in "Ural" ( a stone bowl to gride things) and with the amount of rainfall collected they predicted the rain as usefull for ploughing or NOT.

[5] Similarly when there is failure in rainfall, by hook or crook they wanted to bring rain.  So to soothe the rain god they performed frog marriages /doney marriages

[6] You know that  ours is an agrarian society and most of the festivals are weather based.  Here are few examples.

    * "PONGAL' / Makara Sankaranthi is a festival for farmers.  They offer the agricultural produce to Sun god as a taoken of gratitude.

** During the Summer, i.e March to May, they worshiped the rain god for better showers and they celebrated  different festivals [in Tamilnadu]

*** HOLI is a festival which is used to identify the change in wind direction by throwing powders. This is just before the onset of SW monsoon.

**** Similarly when the SW monsoon is withdrawn from western India farmers and people celebrate it as Ganapathy Papapa Moria" Ganesh Chaturiti.

***** The on set of NE monsoon in southern states and east coast is celebrated as Durga Pooja

****** Deepavali is associated as withdrawal of rainy season with almost all parts of India (except TN,AP)

++++++ The Christ birth is associated with EL NINO .

So wether and humans especially farmers, fisherman, sailors etc are in seperable. But now a days modern "Numerical Weather Predictions"  dominate the field of meteorology and here too the prediction success rate is equal to that of farmers'.

  5. It's not true that old farmers can predict the weather. However, an experienced farmer can make a good guess as to the weather. As far as predictions go, no human has been consistently accurate is predicting the weather. The operating term here being consistently accurate.

  6. Ya...that's true some people who are very much attach to the nature and who has a believe in a particular things like Local deities and also who is old and original from that places can predict the weather. There will be two ways to think of their prediction. One through psychological believes and one through religion believes

  7. Yes it is true, Because in Good Olden days there were no Televisions and Radio Sets even though there are Radio Sets, only Rich people will be having. At that time they use to predict the whether by seeing into the sky, even they will tell the Exact time By seeing to the Sun. So what you said is Absolutely Correct.

  8. yes, but not scientifically, nature has provided us lot of things to measure, forecasts, and the same was carried on from their forefathers, they may not be able to explain how they predict, but their predictions were turned true to the extent. in modern technology still we can't predict the percentage perfectly.where as farmers they used to still in some places and they are.

  9. Old farmers and our forefathers were star watchers.By studying the movement of planets and position of stars in the sky and by watching the direction of wind they were able to predict weather conditions.

  10. To my 52 years of experience, old people were very much mingled with nature and natural powers, and nature's face expressions.  The new generation need not to stay in open land, but the old had.  They were respecting the soil, air and water and the reflection of these in the sky and were able to foresee the rain, sun, earthquake etc., When I was staying on the banks of Muvattupuzha - a river in the middle Kerala State, I was dealing with people who communicate with the river and predicting the next days face of the river - flood or dry or type and colour of water comes etc., in the river.  Olden times, they were depending on their legs and no motors and it is justifiable that they were able to predict weather.  Even by examining thru astrology, I shall predict the weather condition of my place.  My body is practised with such a sensitivity that slight variation in the temperature makes it sweat or cover.  This is derived from the belief that all the creations are greater than me and 'I' is merely a feeling when I am not sleeping and when I am sleeping, there is no "I am" nor anything.  So, "Self" is an illusion only remaining due to presence of this physical body.

  11. In olden days there was no meteorological department so the experienced men predicted taking into account some things which you have mentioned. Also their predictions became true, but now it seems it will not work.

  12. YES, it is very true that old farmers can pridict weather.

Based on their vast experiences and knowledge about the natural changes occured during the change in weather conditions, as you said about rats, ants and bird, they are able to pridict the changes that are going to happen in the weather conditions.

  13. Meteorologist becomes the best meteorologist with a long experience in his work.

An old farmer also can be called as the local meteorolosist of his particular locality. Because he is expert in predicting the features of the atmosphere in his own area.

  14. Yes. Farmers and fishermen, working in close coordination with nature and different faces of weather, are able to sense the forthcoming mood of nature. This is more like a skill aquired through 'conditioning' (in Psychological terms). I have heard some experienced fishermen, even predicting the kind of wind likely, by seing the shape of a cloud (like, if it is narrow, long and horizontally spread, it is likely to generate strong wind along with or just before the rain). Believe me it happened to be true sometimes. Though I am not sure whether it is same all the time. But it is their work requirement to be able too predict weather for themselves and develop a skill for it. So there must be truth in it.

  15. Yes almost accurately.

Because they were close to nature. There was no T.V. or radio to fall upon. They were able to predict whether there will be rain in next two or three days. I am also from rural India. My father used predict almost accurately about rains by looking at the sky -more accurate than the current wheather forecasts. Now a days we are more dependent upon the T.V to know the whether conditions.

And due to global warming the condition is fast chnging and I don't think nobody can predict the whether conditions as previously they used to be.

  16. Yes, farmers can predict the weather.

Anyone can predict the weather. Accuracy varies. After a lifetime of trial and error and also from learning of weather signs from others, older people's accuracy is better than many others.

  17. Also meteorologists.

Yes some people who live close to nature can pick up on things like changes in weather. Like the Moken who knew the 04 Tsunami was coming before it hit.

The predictions that your talking about are based on the observation of other species, ants, birds, fish etc. which are often able to detect environmental factors which humans cannot. It's pretty well documented that some species will react to things like earthquakes or tsunamis before humans have any idea what is going on.

  18. The ants always take their eggs to higher places before monsoon, the wasps lay more eggs before monsoon, the south wind will blow before monsoon (as i live in the north i.e. punjab) the hotter the summer more will it rain, the snakes start coming out quite often, the smell of air will change, their will be more humidity in the air, a cigarette which is lit if placed near the earth will pull its smoke and many other signs i have learned from my forefathers here after 30 years of farming do make me sure that not all old farmers, but a few could tell and forecast upto a week before the rainfall at a certain day and time. Still in my home town, we all know that the day there is first monsoon rainfall in Delhi, exactly after 7 days there will be a shower in my home town here in punjab.

  19. Yes.. it is true.. It is fact that just by looking at sky one can predict the weather. I have met some tribal people in Himachal pradesh who predicted in the night that within 3-4 days there will be heavy rain and it happened. These ppl are illetrate and dont know how to read and write.

  20. Yes,it is true.Life is a school, and whatever we do  all our life sincerely teaches us many things.Old farmers not only learn from their own experience but they have age old experience of their ancesters and their fellow farmers too.Even animals can predict weather so why not men?We educated people rely on not our experience but mechines and other agencies to know everything and make fun of real experience. If we are alert about our environment we can always get hints about change in weather.

  21. Indian farmers or Red Indians in USA predicted the weather purely out of their observations over the years in natural sequential chnges that took place before the changes in the weather conditions.

They never had any extra ordinary sensory perception about the weather.  Hence, it is just experience that gives  good judgements.

The sharper the observations the greater the credibility of the person who predicted the weather changes in those days.

But today it is not necessary- the same work is being done by super computer from the satellite and the weather predictions are very accurate and reliable to the hourly changes

  22. By experiance old people expect the weather, but this is not always correct. Earlier no department is there for giving information of weather, so farmers are observing the climate they will tell like rain will come or not.

  23. Yes they could predict about the weather by careful observations of the behaviour of different organisms and the wind directions etc.

  24. Absolutely, bilkul, right! they have the nose for weather! many of them consult the almanac, look at the moon and sun, sniff the air, and predict weather accurately for you!

  25. With so much man made manipulation of weather patterns now days, it is pretty hard to use a farmers almanac or even your senses to detect patterns. They change so rapidly now seems like one day it could be 100 outside then drop to 60 at night with hailstones.

  26. Yes they can, this can not be proved through science. It is the instinct. In todays scenario Captains of the most popular game Cricket go to the pitch to get a feel of its behaviour by touching it and thus they decide action plan after winning the toss.

  27. Yes seniorcitizens of the villages will now also predict based on the climatic condition tell us how the day will be&coming days.In my younger age i have seen too many times in my own village &astonished.

  28. Yes, Not only old farmers can predict weather but they were more accuratge as well

For example if you see a spider start weaving web outside the home, it means no rain will come or you can say that the rainy season is over.

In this manner the old farmers learn to predict about the weather some times based on nature or some times their own experience.

  29. It was true. Old farmers predicted the weather.Their calculation were always on cultivation and often correct.

BUT NOW every thing has changed. Predication often goes wrong.

  30. some farmers can predict, but all the time their guess wont be right..they are able to predict weather because they are very experienced can predict but looking at the sky or by feeling the wind.but its really impossible to predict whether by looking at the ant carrying their egg,its actually very foolish.Once they must have seen a ant carrying their egg and at the same time rain must have poured so that would have thought this would happen all the time

  31. Yes, The old farmers can predict the weather by seeing the sky. Also they can predict the time by seeing the sun.

The statement mentioned by you is absolutely correct......
