Is it true that people who love to read romance novels are...??

weak and they just do it because they are not happy about their lives? And only girls love reading romances? What do you think?

i wouldn't say weak, maybe just a lack of that feeling you get when your in love...it gives a sense of escapism into a world they wish they were in perhaps. im a straight guy that has never read one but understand why some girls might. It dosent mean someone who likes to read murder/horror are feeling violent or grotesque.. just a certain realm of escapism.

I wouldn't say I read them b/c I'm not happy about my life as a whole but my love life yes.  I am 32 and single so it's nice to fantasize about romance, love, and being with someone until I find him.  I am very happy about every other aspect of my life!

Some people choose romance novels

I choose Stephen King novels

There is no wrong thing to read

Its all good.

Escapism is a two hour trip into a place away from everyday life

Its not running away from any problems

Its not getting high to avoid reality

Its like dreaming

Its putting yourself into a different skin

Sometimes its learning

You go "there".....into the book youre reading......... have fun.. get scared........discover something you didnt know before..... and then you come back.

Everyone likes a bit of escapism, whether it's through reading, art, music, sport, cooking...anything.

I don't think the romance novel audience can be generalised. It's not necessarily about not being happy with your life although of course there will be some people that envy what happens in books.

I also think the romance genre is female dominated but I know a few boys who liked a good love story just like anyone else!
