Question:

Is it true that people with black hair and blue eyes are a large part of the population in coastal Aquitaine?

Anthropologists say the Irish are the only population of people where black hair and blue eyes make up the majority of the living population. The Highland Scots, southern Welsh, and Cornish are pretty close in that regard too, but the Irish are most known for this phenomenon. However, I read recently that this rare combination of blue eyes and jet black (not just dark brown, mind you) is also quite common amongst the people who inhabit the coastal areas of Aquitaine in the southwestern, Atlantic reaches of France. Can anyone weigh in on this with any data or personal observations?

  1. My brothers and sisters all have black hair and blue eyes, excluding one sister, and myself. She just has lighter hair, and I have green eyes and light brown hair. And we're German, and Native American.
