  1. Of course. But it takes a long time. Deadening the nerves can be a bad idea but it will give you an advantage in battle. The nerves die off because off all the beating on the knuckles. I know this because the nerves in my knuckles, shins, elbows, and knees are dead but not all the way but it made fighting much easier for me.

  2. It's partially true and completely a bad idea. Just like people who work with their hands, over time the skin gets thicker and more callused. Mostly you just get used to the action and your brain learns to ignore the pain. On the other hand (no pun intended) you can severely damage your joints and even cause trauma to the ligaments in your hand over time.

But to answer your question. Yes. There you can deaden the nerves in your hand, but this also affects the use and mobility of that hand.

  3. The true purpose of conditioning the body in the Martial Arts is to achieve an overall stronger, faster and more flexible structure. You start out by learning how to execute a strike (hand, elbow, knee, foot, etc.) properly. Secondly you strike softer targets until you can execute your strikes proficiently. Third you increase the hardness of the target over a period of time until you can proficiently break something as hard as a brick. What this method does is increase your bone density over a period of time without damaging nerves or building ugly calouses. Martial Artists can break things that non-Martial Artists can't because our bone density is greater and we know the proper striking techniques. I hope this helps you understand.

  4. yes, this training method is called body hardening.Buddhist monks use this training so they will not feel much pain when in a combat situation.they actually hit themselves to everywhere(literally even in the private area) to kill nerves so they wont feel pain, toughen skin so it doesn't tare that easily, and strengthening Bone so they don't brake as much.it is an excruciatingly painful training that takes years to finish, but in the end they become fighting machines.don't just go whacking yourself with a 2x4 and think you will be like that.even the monks are under intense supervision so they wont tear a ligament or something,so ya...

  5. No, that's stupid. Some punch straw mats to toughen the skin, but not to "fight easier".

  6. Yes it is true your nerves will die and so will your ability to use your fingers. Maybe worse.

If you want to condition your hand use proven and safe (if there is a safe) method. Don't punch trees recklessly.

  7. maybe but why would you ever want to? that can cause permanent damage to your hands. crippling arthritis bone damage. who would really want to be a cripple at age 30?

  8. I know it forms callouses. Don't know about the nerves although I'm sure that's what Muay Thai fighters do so they don't have bother with the pain in their shins when they kick. So I guess it's true.

  9. it can deaden nerves yes but that doesnt make fighting easier it just makes it hurt less. and posibly harder if you kill to many nervers you wont feel anything and you could do a lot of serious damage without noticing it.

  10. Yes, if you punch a tree or wood, or any solid object, for that matter, you will deaden the nerves in your hand, over time.  It will in no way make fighting 'easier'.  The only wood you should be punching should be a makiwara, and that ONLY if you are under the guidance and tutelage of a trained martial arts instructor.  Don't just go out and start punching a tree and think you're going to become a master of fighting.
