I just read this in an article, that a man will use one of two things to keep a woman "in line". His money or violence. What does everyone think about this comment?

  1. No

abusive men aren't something that is class/IQ/good looks sensitive.

it hard to comment since I don't know what article you are talking about but I don't like the fact that it seems like it saying all guys want to control women and it sticks us all into two boxes (that are both inside that one box)

  2. i don't believe that study, just because you got money doesn't mean your sick tendencies go away. look at the example of ray carruth ( carolina panthers ) who was making millions of dollars and he still killed his pregnant girlfriend. i'm sure if you dig deep enough you will find many more examples. personally i don't think violence knows how much money is in your bank account. =)

  3. You have to take into account report rates also. Woman who depend on rich husbands may be less likely to report abuse, it is also not openly discussed in higher economic groups.

  4. please explain what "keep women in line" means - because in my culture (American), that phrase no longer has meaning.

  5. Men cannot keep women "in line",its just that a lot of insecure women will let men control them with money, or they cant stand up for themselves.

Women with a backbone wont let themselves be "put in line" by men or women for that matter.

  6. Ted BundY?

  7. because both ways women will listen to the man.

    big wallets or big muscle

  8. Don't believe everything you read.  Yes it's logical rich men use money to keep a woman "in line."  There is a third way most men use-via verbally.  "Come on honey, I'm sorry

    and I love you."

  9. Possibly.  What you have to remember about these kind of studies is that they do not differentiate between a statistical relationship and a causal link.  There are often other factors at play that studies do not consider; for example, in the summer deaths by drowning and ice cream sales both increase - but one does not necessarily cause the other - this is an example of a statistical relationship.

In the case of your particular study, rich men probably don't need to use violence because they can afford the kind of wives that will do as they're told and don't argue back.  Sadly, we are not all so blessed.
