Is it true that the Utility Company can put a lien on your home? I just read someones utility bill (past due notice) and it states that if it is not paid by a certain date, that they will put a lien on their home. I am not kidding. For a $40 bill they can take your home or put a lien against it? That is plain stupid! The government is just getting plain ridiculous now. That notice came after my friend paid their utility bill, it crossed in the mail.

  1. yes it is. In fact if you get a new HVAC system financed through them they will always place a UCC lien on the home

  2. It is true!

  3. They tend to have to do this is areas where it is not legal for them to shut off the gas because of the need for heat.

Your friend may not be a low life that takes advantage of companies, but many people are.

The letter was generated by a computer when his bill was late, it was nothing personal.

  4. A lien does not “take your home.” It just means that if anyone ever wants to sell this house, they’ll have to pay the bill to do so.

  5. Yes they can.

    Pay your bills.

  6. yes, they can put a "lien" on the home, but it's not as powerful as taking away their home, its kinda like a warning, "you didn't pay us, so we're gonna "flag" your house."
