  2. so they say

  3. probably.

  4. Yes

  5. Columbus didn't even discover America--he discovered the West Indies, and that discovery LED to the discovery of America.

The Vikings did indeed come by America before the conquistadores, but it's safe to say the Native Americans landed in America before anybody else. :P

  6. absolutly,  its generally accepted that leif erikson was the first european to set foot on american soil

  7. To Spica: us Native Americans didn't discover America, we were always here. Legend handed down to me from my family states the Vikings came here first. Some of the men intermarried with our tribe.

  8. The artifacts in Newfoundland predate Columbus by about a little less than a millennium.  The main reason Columbus got more historical press is because he gave europe a reason to come back, he brought back exotic items only found in this hemisphere, the Vikings came founded a settlement and it died and in turn in Norse terms this place was forsaken so it made very little news throughout europe.  It is kind of like we had a spaceship that found a planet where a virus destroyed all human life that came in contact with it, we wouldn't want to go back to it we would probably leave a beacon warding off all future visitors.
