  1. That is correct, but sometimes it backfires.

If the creditor doe's not respond in 30 days the bureau must remove the account, but if the creditor responds later and verifies the account as correct it will be put back on your report.

  2. Kind of, but not quite.  They have thirty days to verify the accuracy of the information which you dispute.  If not verified by the reporting creditor, then they must remove it.  However, if the creditor responds late and verified the information, it can be put back into the file as valid.

  3. That is true.

  4. Just in addition to what was said before it depends on how you got your report.  In most cases they have 30 days to respond, however it can be up to 45 days in certain cases.

If you received your credit report through the FACT Act, where you are entitled to one per year for free they have 45 days to respond.

As to if they will remove it, yes after 30(45) days it will be removed.  But if at a later time the creditor verifies the data the information will be put back on the report.

  5. not really. My husband has filed several disputes some have taken a week others a month and most of the time nothing was removed. It's a b*tch to get stuff removed.

  6. I would check out the forums on myfico.com. They have TONS of information about rebuilding credit, removing negative marks, etc.
