  1. When it comes to science, there is no such thing as "the debate is over."

The problem is, global warming as a means of control is what is being forced on the public as well as higher taxes.   More people believe the junk science at the altar of Al Gore but won't take the initiative to look at the data themselves.

  2. The scientific method does not include debate.  In the scientific community, as I hope you already realize, a consensus has been reached that climate change is happening and is being accelerated by human activities.

The political debate over what needs to be done about it, however, will probably go on for a long time.

EDIT: To Jeff G - The term "global warming" can be misleading, which is why you will find the phenomenom being referred to as "climate change" more and more often.  We can expect to see more severe weather, not just warmer weather.  Also, it is a long term trend.  You can't just take one year as an example.

  3. Yes, since there hasn't been a rise in global temperature in the last ten years and C02 output has steadily increased, i would say the debate is over. the bottom line is that the correlation between C02 and temperature rise is weak to say the least.

  4. The facts have been established ~ Global warming is already happening and its consequences are being felt more and more. To that extent the debate is largely concluded.

As regards the causes of Global Warming, there seem to be two camps.

Those who believe that mankind is the cause through pollution etc and we can reverse the trends.

Those who associate the causes with the sun and other natural phenomena and argue there is nothing we can do about it.

  5. according to an article i was reading, scientists have proved that we are well on our way to an ice age. It also said however, that global warming may still be in effect-what with all the weather changes and c**p. I would still be cautious about it and try to drive less tho.

  6. scientists have been saying its over since it started because they agree its here... unless u count the ones that are being paid to tell u otherwise (we learned that in science i.k. right?)

but just because were human we could debate anything, until it no longer exists

  7. 70% of people agree that global warming is real.

The other 30% are still still believe in that whole "the earth is flat" concept.

  8. Yes! Any doubt about humans contribution to the accelerated  accumulation of greenhouse gases is not a "debatable" scientific subject anymore.   The effects of CO2 in the atmosphere is a  fact!   If some folks 'believe' that man cannot effect 'God's ' Earth, they are living in the blissful ignorance of real science.   Let's leave the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus out of the discussion of climate change!   If you're sick, call a doctor, not a pastor! If you're confused about spiritual matters, call a pastor, not a surgeon!

The rapidly widening parameters of weather records is one way to measure climate change.  Each year now, there have been more and more tornadoes!  How many are too many?  Does anybody in the storm ravaged mid-west think this a 'normal' weather pattern?

    edit/   jeff g

Global warming will cause MORE severe and unusual weather to happen!  Heat drives the weather, increases the heat, and weather 'speeds' up! [wag more...bark less!]

  9. o no the the people who make squillions out of our consumerist society will fight it to the death.

making much of every variation in climatologist's analyses

treating science as though it can create absolute truths and if it doesn't then it is in error

then coming in at the dirty end of the fight with ad hominem arguments pouring slime over the personalities who are making the most headway

Betty Davis had the right phrase for it:

'fasten your seat belts you ain't seen nothing yet'

  10. Yes the debate over the likelihood that mankind is creating global warming is over.  The skeptics continue to cite old news that the scientific community has moved past.  It is not about Al Gore anymore, the science and the positions of the major nations are well known.

The debate over how to solve the problem is finally active without the distraction of whether it is a problem.

  11. Which debate?

There will always be debate, since there are so many ambiguities involved.

The current scope of the debate is how much, how fast, how to mitigate and adapt.

  12. Science always takes a tentative position and is open to change it's view if new evidence/facts become available.  But the basic aspects of global warming are no longer under any active debate among climate scientists. These would include:

    1) Global surface temperature is warming

    2) Atmospheric greenhouse gas levels are rising

    3) Human activity is responsible for that rise

    4) Most of the measured warming the latter half of the 20th century was caused by the rising greenhouse gases

    5) More warming will occur

Areas still under debate would include:

    1) How much warming and how fast it will occur

    2) Effect of warming on various other phenomena (e.g. tropical storms)

    3) How quickly and how much the sea-level may rise

  13. I suppose most of the "educated" population believes that global warming is real.  As for the 30% of us that still believe that the earth is flat, could someone please explain in layman's terms how the earth is warming up, yet we are experiencing some of the most severe winters ever??  The North Easten part of the United States completely misses Srping this year.  Those people went from severe winter, ice, and snow, to Summer.

  14. The debate on the causes of global warming is over among the scientific experts.  See the 'Consensus' section here:

    http://greenhome.huddler.com/wiki/global...

Of course there's still the debate as to how bad the consequences will be, and the debate as to what we should do about it.

  15. ya - it's already warmer

  16. Here is MY problem with CO2 being the cause of Global Warming/Climate Change. Mars has an atmosphere of 90% CO2 we (on Earth) have less than 1%. SO WHY is it that Mars is so darn cold????? If CO2 causes Global Warming then Mars should be an inferno.
