It says on Yahoo that the Opening Ceremony fireworks were computer generated, and the torch runner running around the top of the stadium was fake, too. Is it really true?

  1. maybe the fireworks were fake...they had me going when they made the faces with fireworks, i thought that was cool!!!

but the torch runner was NOT fake...they clearly held him with cables. i don't think theres a way to computer generate someone running with a torch whille fooling everyone at the stadium at the same time.

  2. The fireworks were real - if you were in the city, you saw 100% of the real thing. People watching on TV also saw mostly the real thing as well - some of the scenes that were the 'fake' computer generated images were made to replicate the real thing.

(because they couldn't film some of the real fireworks with helicopters - either too dangerous or couldn't keep up)

  3. No, only some of the fireworks were computer generated from the TELEVISION BROADCAST. The fireworks were actually set off in Beijing, but due to safety issues in filming the display live, some of the fireworks was computer generated for the TV viewers at home. The torch runner was real.

I also noticed that it's a London newspaper reporting about faked fireworks. Hmm are they afraid of trying to top Beijing in 2012?

  4. Just a few in a certain section (for safety reasons) were simulated for the TV broadcast.

  5. no!

China's got *crazy* fireworks. There's no way they'd have to fake it.

Also, how *would* they fake it? You could edit it in afterwards for TV, but you couldn't make them appear in the sky with a computer. It was broadcast live and the tickets to the actual ceremony cost $700+ so those people would be pretty pissed if they didn't see anything.
