  1. Like other countries in the world, ICE (immigration) officers now check your passport when you leave the country.

  2. Well, like Yak Rider says, that's the plan. It's been the plan for years, but hasn't happened yet and there's no funding to make it happen anytime soon. More's the shame.

  3. They have been controlling exits of foreign nationals for years, by surrendering I-94 from at the exit of US. For a couple of years back, at the exit of US, all foreign nationals were obligated to take pictures and fingerprints to report to immigration that you have exited the US. After 1 or 2 years of this operation, USCIS stopped for some reason. I don't remember the exact reason.

  4. It's not 100% in place as of yet, but yes, that's the plan.  Fingerprinted on the way in and out.

  5. When I went to Canada last year (went back & forth a number of times over a few months), US-side was checking everyone out as well coming in.  This was supposed to be in effect for years, and apparently has been coming on-line step-by-step, station-by-station, airport-by-airport for extended period. Even if they were not screening a particular spot a month ago, things may well have changed.   I would not try to enter or exit the US anywhere any way without valid passport and everything in A-1 order.
