  1. not anymore, it used to be that way especially in France and England where they would kill each other, most of Europe was Catholic

  2. I don't think there *is* any explanation for the anti-Catholic bigotry that a lot of fundamentalists and evangelicals display toward Catholics.

Except that in some cases, their family tree doesn't fork nearly as often as it should.

  3. being Catholic is a completely different religion from Christian.

In Catholicism, you can confess your sins to a priest, and he gives you your penance to do, and you are forgiven. In Christianity, only Jesus can forgive you of your sins.

There are a million differences, I don't know them all, not being Catholic myself. My dad was Catholic, I could ask him, he may still remember.

Oh, the Pope, being all infallible, Christians don't believe that.

Is there actually a lot of bigotry towards Catholics? I don't know. Everyone fights amongst themselves, its what humans do.

  4. Persecution is a sign of Christ's true church.

  5. No, even though it is probably warranted.

  6. I echo Chris

Since when is common disagreement bigotry.  Only a victim complex would come up with that..

Next thing you know, just because I think homosexuality is a sin.,..I will be called a g*y basher.

  7. Yes.  Some people who call themselves christians have very strong hatred for the Church that Christ founded.

  8. Disagreement is "bigotry"?

Political correctness is run amuck.  No wonder so many people rightly reject being P.C.

  9. Gandhi said: "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

      --  Mahatma Gandhi

That to me is the whole problem, Christ had it right, somehow Christians have gotten it wrong. So many crazy rules and belief systems it's nuts.

God has only one scorecard - how well do you treat his other children? It's all about the Love, everything else is a man-made rule.

  10. Hello,

It seems like it here in YA at times but in the macro world I have noticed next to none and in our area the Catholics and other Christian denominations co-operate a great deal with one another.

    Cheers,

    Michael Kelly

  11. they have been truning away from us since before Jesus founded us.  The most horrible things I've ever heard about catholics were the discusions before and after calvary chapple prayer breakfasts.

At that time I was a calvary chappler but I did not chime in. I just listened, and I learned a great deal about darkness from those who think they are in the light in fact they shout it.

Of course nowadays the only group it is PC to speak of in a bigotted fashion is the church that Jesus founded.

  12. I think Catholics talking about bigotry after what they have done in history is a bit rich...

Simple fact is that religions dislike each other when what joins them is far greater than what divides the. But belief divides and that is why is is so damaging more often than not.

  13. A Christian is a Christian.  Religious tolerance is the only answer.  It has led to many wars.  But there have been wars fought over beer recipes.

  14. Not bigotry, knowledge. I actually did get born again while still Catholic so I know that some Catholics are going to Heaven and that blesses me. It'll be nice to see them there.

  15. Traditionally Protestants don't approve of Catholics due to the high level of ceremonialism in catholic masses and ignorance on behalf of catholics of even the most fundamental parts of the Bible.  I don't mean to sound rude but I grew up catholic and went to catholic schools and there was not a lot of emphasis on reading the Bible or knowing anything about it.  You listened to the priest, sinned and did penance.  Protestants don't think that's how it goes.  Protestants believe in going to Jesus yourself to confess sins (not a priest) and no need for self-expiation.

On the other side of the coin I've seen a lot of looking down catholic noses at protestants, too.

And on a third note: catholic church is behind protestant ecumenism.  There's not a lot of difference in doctrine between ecumenical christianity and catholicism anyway.

  16. Satan knows better that answer

  17. People don't like competition.

  18. no...but we can see certain things such as how theyve added 5 sacraments...Jesus said 2!

  19. Anti Catholic Bigotry in the USA is rooted in the rivalry between England and Spain (a largely Catholic country).

The bigotry was later fueled by prejudice against Irish and Italian immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, virtually all of whom were Catholic.

The latin american catholics who immigrated to the USA in the mid to late 20th century added new fodder for anti-Catholic bigotry.

Today, most anti-Catholic bigotry is based on ignorance and fear.

  20. yes. people don't think we are true Christians because of our beliefs and traditions. they refuse to learn about the Catholic Church therefore they choose to critize it without understanding it.

  21. I have no idea what you just asked. Imma go out on a limb and say this:

Many christan sects dont like catholics because they enforce the new and old testements, they dont encourage there members to read the bible, over time, they grow to accept things that other relgions don't want to, and cahtolics are about the rituals, not about the singing.

Honestly, all sects have there own flaws, and all of them belive that there the only ones getting saved in the end. Sad really...

  22. We Catholics would never tell non-Catholic Christians what they believe but instead accept their statements of their belief; although, unlike the Catholic faith, there is usually no source to verify their beliefs as it is with Catholics where one can go to the Catechism and see exactly what Catholics believe. Therefore in this modern age of instant information, via the computer, there is no excuse when one bears false witness against Christ’s Church and the faithful. Such actions must, if one uses reason, be intentional prevarification. There is simply no other explanation except laziness. Actually it is correct in saying that one may be a wannabe Catholic but it probably is not intentional desire but the result of the Holy Spirit drawing them to Christ’s Church and causing conflicts in their disobedient soul. Their spirit of contention tells them they must find fault in Christ’s Church, even if it is created in their own imagination, or it becomes apparent that the original and only Church that Christ created is the true Church with all of the promises that Christ gave to His Church. Obviously, if one did not surrender to these facts then they would not be in God’s will and obedient to the one true God. It seems that ignoring this obvious conclusion is illustrated by their unwillingness to even check out their beliefs about the Catholic Church to find out if their imagined faults have any veracity. What will happen, as thousands of people will attest who have come home to His Church is that, what they hated and spoke out against is not at all the Catholic Church but an enemy of their own creation. Here is what a bishop said about this topic:

    by Bishop Fulton Sheen

"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church—which is, of course, quite a different thing. These millions can hardly be blamed for hating Catholics because Catholics “adore statues;” because they “put the Blessed Mother on the same level with God;” because they “say indulgence is a permission to commit sin;” because the Pope “is a Fascist;” because the Church “is the defender of Capitalism.” If the Church taught or believed any one of these things, it should be hated, but the fact is that the Church does not believe nor teach any one of them. It follows then that the hatred of the millions is directed against error and not against truth. As a matter of fact, if we Catholics believed all of the untruths and lies which were said against the Church, we probably would hate the Church a thousand times more than they do.

If I were not a Catholic, and were looking for the true Church in the world today, I would look for the one Church which did not get along well with the world; in other words, I would look for the Church which the world hates. My reason for doing this would be, that if Christ is in any one of the churches of the world today, He must still be hated as He was when He was on earth in the flesh. If you would find Christ today, then find the Church that does not get along with the world. Look for the Church that is hated by the world, as Christ was hated by the world. Look for the Church which is accused of being behind the times, as Our Lord was accused of being ignorant and never having learned. Look for the Church which men sneer at as socially inferior, as they sneered at Our Lord because He came from Nazareth. Look for the Church which is accused of having a devil, as Our Lord was accused of being possessed by Beelzebub, the Prince of Devils. Look for the Church which the world rejects because it claims it is infallible, as Pilate rejected Christ because he called Himself the Truth. Look for the Church which amid the confusion of conflicting opinions, its members love as they love Christ, and respect its voice as the very voice of its Founder, and the suspicion will grow, that if the Church is unpopular with the spirit of the world, then it is unworldly, and if it is unworldly, it is other-worldly. Since it is other-worldly, it is infinitely loved and infinitely hated as was Christ Himself. ... the Catholic Church is the only Church existing today which goes back to the time of Christ. History is so very clear on this point, it is curious how many miss its obviousness..."

    In Christ
