i read somewhere that tire spray/gel for making the tires look wet and shiny can damage the tire tread, even if not applied directly on the tread

no i dont spray it on the tread, only the sidewall where it is visible

and i keep it at the proper PSI, and they are balanced, and my tires are fine

just curious to see anyone elses opinion on this

  1. if you use a tire shine product you will need to strip the tire evry now and then to avoid build up of the product.once you stop useing the product you will notice the side of the tire looks like its cracking apart, which it is because the tire is too dry.the tire shine is a two sided sword.it looks great but if not properly maintained it will destroy the tire over time.

  2. you don,t put it on the tread anyway. i used tire spray before, but i only put it on the sides of the tires.

  3. I've used some sort of tire dressing for my cars since 1968 and have never had a problem with the tires cracking or wearing out faster than they should.

  4. I put somthing on a set of almost new 50 series to keep them black and clean before I stored them for about six months. I sold the tires to a good friend and he was a little upset because the tread wore down unusually fast. They were name brand tires so the only thing that was different than I ussually do to tires was the stuff I used on them can't remember the name of the product but I have heard degreaser works to make tire look clean and black.

  5. I heard many claims where damage is inflicted because of tire shine products. I find their claims quite absurd, to say the least; insisting that the products soften the rubber thus wearing faster. A tire shine product protects the rubber from UV rays as well as conditioning it, too. Matter in fact, I'll even go further and state that it will make your tires taste longer and make the rubber more durable.

  6. They are pulling your leg, the only thing that makes the tread wear faster is the nut on the gas pedal.  (assuming proper air pressure, alignment, etc.)
