But to get back into America you need a U.S. passport? My family and I are planning a trip to Canada, but I don't think that we'll be able to go if we can't come back home...

Our plan is to Fly to Buffalo Canada, then drive to Flint (In the U.S.), and then fly home from there.

  1. Yeah it is true you need a passport to get back into the US

Get the passport early because they take several months to process normally and their expensive.

  2. No it is not possabily you need a pasport the only other way is to be born there and have a birth certificate saying your born there. But if you not then you well have to have a pasport to get there.Or you not goin.

  3. Isnt Buffalo in New York state, If your going to ontario you should be flying to pearson international in Toronto. Always bring your passport! You do only need a birth certificate and an I.D. card. I live in canada and it works the same to go to the states, I only need an I.D. Card and a birth certificate. BUT BRING YOUR PASSPORTS, ITS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA. If your worried about getting robbed of them or something, don't worry, our criminals suck. =P

  4. You can come in and out of canada with only an I.D. for now until around the beginning of next year they're saying that you will; but for now an I.D. will suffice.

  5. No, you need a passport now.

  9. This is probably the question that creates the most confusion and generates the most number of incorrect answers of any current question. The current rules relating to passports for travel between the US and Canada were set down by the US Department of Homeland Security.  The current regulations for travel into the US from Canada for all citizens, US and Canadian, are as follows:

    By Air: A valid Passport

By Land: A valid Passport, OR, a valid government issued ID (i.e. Driver's License) and an official birth certificate. If you are 18 or younger then only a birth certificate is required.

    By Sea: Same as Land.

If you are 18 or younger and travelling either alone or with one parent you will require a letter of authorization allowing the person/parent transporting you to bring you across the border. It must be signed by either both parents or the parent not accompanying you.

Although you can fly into Canada in theory without a passport airlines may require a passport for travel outside of the US.  Although the government regulates minimum requirements for travel airlines often require further ID simply to protect themselves so you may find an airline requesting a passport for any cross border flights.  You need to check with the airline prior to purchasing your tickets.

Oh, I have heard of Buffalo, New York but not Buffalo, Canada so perhaps you are flying within the US and driving across the border.
