I heard that after not eating meat or milk or eggs or anything, vegans begin to loose their ability to digest these foods properly. Is this true? And what happens if that happens and then you have meat/dairy/eggs? How would your body react?

  1. No.

  2. No, its not true. If you were vegan and went back to eating animal products than you would still be able to digest them. The most that could happen is that you may feel a little sick at first because your body has gotten use to not taking in those products.

    EDIT:

To the others that answered this question. You do not need meat to be healthy, and not every vegetarian or vegan person is doing so just to "save the animals", and even for those who are its their business and if they feel that strongly about it than who are you to tell them they are wrong? And Shawn... "No one ever lived forever from eating carrots" Wow, this made me laugh. Since when has someone lived forever from eating meat? Seriously people, do your homework before you go around putting down something that you obviously have no knowledge of.

  3. I would think so... You need to eat meat though. No one lived forever from eating carrots. Plus your killing the poor plants and not the cows that are killing the Earth! ha ha Vegetarians need to realize that they need other type of foods to be healthy not little liberal morons

  4. Vegans still have the body of an omnivore, it may take a few days to adjust, but your liver has the ability to manufacture the enzymes needed to digest meat, eggs, and dairy.

  5. not true... if you want to see for yourself, you can try but of course you won't..

you may suffer from upset stomach or some psychosomatic response but thats about it..

  6. Coming from a long-time veg, i know it's true. If the enzymes used to digest meat products go unused, they are greatly reduced in numbers. We do not permanently lose our ability to digest meat products, but we have to increase our meat intake very gradually if we don't want to have SERIOUS digestive issues. It takes time to build up the same amount of those enzymes that we had before we went veg.

Even if there is a trace amount of meat in my food-if my collared greens were stewed with a ham bone (don't judge, i live in the south!), i'll feel it.
