Question:

Is it true that vodka safely cleans/shines jewelry?

I have heard recentlyfrom a couple different sources that people actually use vodka to shine up their jewelry. I just wanted to make sure on this before I tried it with my engagement ring. Also, if this is true, how exactly should I go about doing this? Like would I need to soak it over night? lightly scrub it? I just don't want to damage my ring, but I would love to see if it can get really shiney!!

  1. Just get a simple cleaning solution from the jewelry store, it would be cheaper then a bottle of vodka and you know it will be safe.  then you follow the instructions.  A light soaking and a light scrub wit a baby tooth brush and rinse it off.

you can use vodka or amonia as well.

  2. I'm not sure about the vodka, but, I use Windex on mind. All I do is fill up the bottom of a cup so that my ring is just covered by it. Then, let soak for about 15 minutes. After that, I just run it under cold water (to wash away the windex smell) & my ring shines like it's brand new ! ( I generally do this once every few months, or right before some event where I want people to take notice of my shiney ring)

  3. not vodka but a hundred percent pure alcohol does clean jewelry. my mom cleans them like that...

  4. The old remedy was ammonia, soak the jewelry[use only on real jewelry, not costume]. Beautiful shine. I used to use plain old toothpaste, but now with all the additives that are in there, I don't do that anymore.

  5. i don't know abut vodka but i know if u put lemon juice  on tooth brush and brush it would make ur ring shiny

  6. Never heard that about Vodka, but do know that Toothpaste is used to clean jewellery but be very careful as is somewhat abrasive (with little granules when lathered) so may damaged your jewellery

Probably Vodka would be safer....if indeed it does work

How about trying it on a cheap ring first?

    :-)

  7. All alcoholic drinks contain sugar so even dry I imagine there would be a sticky residue left...ick.

  8. I'm not sure about the vodka, personally I wouldn't waste the vodka on my ring.  I have jewelry cleaner that I bought from the jewelry store to clean between the official cleanings that I get for free from the jeweler that we purchased my ring from.
