  1. yep. Dita Von Teese got her first corset at the age of 16 (considered by fitters around the right age to start wearing corsets as bones are developed enough at this age.)

Waist measurements can be reduced by up to 4 inches and up to six inches for bigger people without being detrimental to health.

UK Corset sizes are in inches. -to obtain your size, measure around your waist, and take 4 off. i.e a 26 inch waist takes a 22 inch waisted corset, UK corset size 22.

Corsets have other benefits such as weight loss -the stomach is pushed in from the sides and held in at the front, so  the wearer feels fuller after eating slightly less, without the need for surgery.

They also give great posture, as you cant slouch while wearing them as the boning round the sides and busks at the front and back hold you up. They also help with most back problems.

I usually wear a corset for going out on saturdays for the past couple of months and already i see a slight difference in my waistline.

Most corset wearers will argue that wearing one is NOT uncomfortable.

You will probably get dizzy wearing a corset for the first time, as you'll have to learn to breathe by using the top of your chest instead of your ribcage, as ribs are pushed in slightly. You'll get used to it after a couple of wears. :)

Worn properly, a corset should not be too tight, should be slightly loose around the hips and top of the ribcage to allow breathing, tight around the waist, and tightened & tied in the middle (not tied at the top or bottom).

And it should be comfy. (there are videos on youtube on how to put it on yourself, without damaging the busks etc.)

You may find your ribs hurt a little after a few hours of wearing. This is because the bottom of the ribcage is pushed in, the hourglass shape is obtained as the skin & muscles attached move in slightly, and hips stay where they are.

Its a bit like braces with teeth -it doesnt hurt too much and bones are moved into place gradually. Corset boning should be flexible to avoid pain.

I recommend Vollers in an underbust style for under clothes (as wearing a corset feels warm as it is so close to the skin), but Snobz corsets are quite good aswell. Wearing an overbust under clothes can get very warm and sweaty, and underbusts cover less body and are less awkward to fit (no bra size etc needed for underbust fitting).

A good underbust will cost about £100 - £150 depending on the materials used. (Very cheap corsets wont last and wont give the right shape i.e. primark corsets at £6 ¬.¬ )

They can be bought online or in some retailers of gothic style clothing. Shops selling them will also fit you for size so ask shop assistants.

i usually wear an underbust over a thin strap vest top, and under a shirt (-shirts which can be tightened at the back are good over corsets such as one from Zara, £12).

It is difficult to wash a corset, so wear something thin under it to keep it clean.

hope i didnt write too much :P

    have fun :)

p.s. ignore these people with their "be happy with the way you are" phrase -thats just what they tell ugly people to make them feel better ;] .

  2. I don't know if it is true or not, but to me all that pain would not be worth it.

  3. Yes corsets indent your waist.  They can decrease it several inches in fact.  This was very common in the middle ages.

Most wear corsets over night, as well as some time during the day  They have to be extremely tight, and they are very uncomfortable.  You also have to wear them for very long periods of time.

I'd suggest exercising and just being happy with your body

  4. yeah it is true and she is a ******** nut case for doing it, all her insides are moshed around to places they aren't meant to be. It can't be good for her. but Yes wear a corset will do that to you.

  5. No, the body will do what the body wants. However people used to (im sure there are some who still do) surgically remove their bottom 2 ribs on each side so they could get more of an hourglass figure.

  6. I read about this a long time ago.. If you constantly wear one, your organs will shift upward and compact, giving you an hourglass shape.. It's kind of gross... Please don't try =[

  7. My sister used to wear corsets all the time.  She managed to damage her blood vessels and got a rash that looked like a million small bruises all over her body.  She hasn't worn corsets in years, but she still has problems with the rash.
