  1. I don't think so. Madras was the part of India right from Independence (Aug/15, 47).

Most of the AP was part of Hyderabad riyasat and remained separate for at least 18-20 months after indian independence. The Nizam wanted to Join pakistan and also a strip of land connecting riyasat to pakistan. Obviously not a practicle situation, discussions followed for a long time.

Sardar Patel had to finally involve Indian Army. Hyderabad'fell' within 2 days and subsequently AP was formed.

Madras was nowhere in the picture I guess.

  2. No.  It is not true.

  3. yes, it is 100% true.  The leaders tried maximum to make the city of madras as the capital of Andhra state.  ok..  i will explain.

now, you find the andhra pradesh burning with telengana issue, and some are making huge fight to get separate telengana state. Going back to 1954,  when Andhra state formed, T.Prakasam was the first chief minister of andhra pradesh.  You know, the Kurnool functioned as the state capital.

The other part of andhra state was existing hydrabad state.  Ramakrishna Rao was the chief minister of hydrabad state.  The Home minister was sardar vallbai patel at that time.  He is called iron man and he is very strict in dealing the subjects.  Sardar vallabai patel took action ending the muslim rule in hydrabad and united the hydrabad with indian union.  That was the day, the telengana people fought the lands of telugu only for telugus.  Parts of hydrabad state joined with karnataka and bombay state.  This is the flashback before formation of new state called andhra state which function from november 1, 1956.

now, i answer to your question... it was real struggle for Andhras..i mean telugu people to get the state out of the hands of c.Rajagoplachari who was working against the interest of re-organisation of states and linguistic base.  At that time, the telugu people are more in madras city and hence they demanded and tried, took more efforts to make madras city as capital of Andhra state reliquishing the rights of Tamils on the city.  But, it is c.Rajagoplachari who succeeded to keep the city of madras with madras state. The telugus failed in their effort and hence, the Kurnool became their capital.

Therefore, it is true that when Andhra state was formed, the people of andhra tried maximum to get madras city as their capital and it is c.Rajagopalachari who succeeded in retaining the madras city with madras state.

  4. i don't think it is true.  i have no knowledge about it....so, it is not true.  But, the people of andhra pradesh are likes madras city most when the matinee idol N.T.Rama Rao resided in madras city and they will come to see him.

  5. Iam not sure if it is really true, but I heard that when borders were drawn, Tamils claimed Tirupathi based on the poem "Vadavengadam thenkumari....." & in response the Telugu people started chanting "Madaras manade..."

  6. Mr Dinaker,  sardar Patel  is the BJP minded congressi like PV Narsimhah rao, patal is anti muslim  so that he is involve in Operation POLO ( called Police action).

any how the true history is deffernt, and  that time Muslims  also opposed please read

""  had also stated at one point of time that he "aims to hoist the Islamic flag on Delhi's Red Fort." In 1947-48, Rizvi unleashed his forces in support of the Nizam’s claims to independence and thousands — both Hindus and Muslims opposed to Osman Ali Khan — were killed before the Indian Army swept into the State in September 1948. '''

When India gained independence in 1947, the British, left the choice of independence or unification up to the local rulers of the princely states. The Muslim ruler of Hyderbad, the last Nizam, wished to remain independent. First he tried to declare Hyderabad as a part of Pakistan but the British government did not allow this. Later in the same year, he announced his intention to become independent.

The rule of the seven Nizam's saw the growth of Hyderabad both culturally and economically. Huge reservoirs, like the Nizam Sagar, Tungabadra, Osman Sagar, Himayath Sagar, and others were built. Survey work on Nagarjuna Sagar had also begun during this time. Hyderabad, under the Nizam's, was the largest princely state in India. Area wise it was as big as England and Scotland put together. The State had its own currency, mint, railways, and postal system. There was no income tax. Soon after India gained independence, Hyderabad State merged with the Union of India. On November 1, 1956 the map of India was redrawn into linguistic states, and Hyderabad became the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
