  1. i think you should get wood floors. i think you can put some coat on the floors to make them not scratch as easily. if you want you could also get an area rug.

  2. The reason why someone shouldn't get wood floors is that they are high maintenance.  They can get scratched, but you have to sand and polish them every few years or so.  You also have to worry about water damage and swelling, but they are well worth it if you're willing to put in the work.  Plus, they will raise the resale value of your home.

  3. Back in the day when real wood was finished with varnish or lacquer, they did scratch pretty easily. But nowadays manufacturers use polyurethane coatings that are very durable and highly resistant to the types of activities older floors would not be able to take.

In choosing between the two floors, consider the advantages and disadvantages of each. Carpet is a better noise insulator, especially in an upstairs application. Carpet's easier on the feet than wood. Disadvantages of carpet is it's harder to clean, either by vacuum or carpet cleaning equipment. It's harder to clean up spills with carpet although the new Stainmaster carpets are very good. Carpets will retain dust and dust mites. If you have pets, pet hair and dander, not to mention fleas, can hide better in the carpet pile. Finally, carpets won't wear as well as wood.

Wood is easier to clean than carpet. Dust mop regularly or use a wet system like the Swiffer. Just be careful not to over wet wood. Excess water is wood's main enemy which is why I'd never install it in a bathroom or kitchen. Wood floors don't retain dust, dirt, pet hair, or other little critters that might bother you if you have respiratory problems like asthma. If you do need some carpet, area rugs or carpet runners are a good solution over the wood, especially in high traffic areas. Wood upstairs will transmit more noise to the floors below than carpet. The newer floors use an insulating under- layment to minimize this, but it's usually not as effective as carpet. Wood does need to be refinished from time to time depending on the amount of traffic. Usually this only requires a very light sanding with a floor buffer and screen disc. The floor can then be re-coated and ready for traffic the next day. Finally, wood is a better investment than carpet. It will add value to your home that carpeting won't.

  4. Wood Floors are really nice.  They can scratch easily if you have rolling chairs. You should still get the wood but buy an area rug.

  5. They're a lot less matainence than carpet, carpet traps dust, dirt, and allergens, and has to be replaced every few years. Houses that are over 100 years old still have their original hardwood. Most sealers make the wood strong, and if you're careful and put felt or rubber pads on your furniture they last.

Even with heavy wear & tear, they need to be stripped and sanded every 8-10 years. Much less than carpet. It allows you to change the look more often with rugs too.

I've been into dozens of million dollar plus homes in my area and they all have wood floors, with rugs. Much classier.

I really don't like carpet, it actually is not very "green" either. The fibers are synthetic, using petroleum, the pads are foam,(not very biodegradable) and it can trap things making the air quality potentially harmful to those with allergies.

  6. YES BUT A QUICK SANDING WILL MAKE IT IDISAPEAR

  7. depends on what type of floors and what you have. Lam-anent flooring will not scratch but natural hard wood does scratch. I wouldn't worry about real wood unless you have like dogs who will scratch with their nails or young children who may draw or throw stuff on or whatever.

  8. It's true that real wood floors scratch easily. That is why laminate is so popular. It's much more durable than real wood.
