One of my friends said that he read that if you're in deep water or underwater during a tornado, your safer than you are on land. Is this true?

  1. Maybe underwater would provide some protection but how long are you going to be submerged?

  2. I think that would absolutely be true, but hard to accomplish. I guess if you had a swimming pool and some scuba gear that might be the thing to do, but remember that while you'd might be safe from the tornado, you be a sitting (swimming?) duck for lightning.

  3. Well usually not because there is lightning, but also there can be a tornado on water and, its called a water spout, But I'm not sure if a tornado can go over water and just turn into a water spout... i would be going in a basement or the first floor of a house.

  4. It could be if you had an air-source...and the water was deep enough.  (assuming you're talking about a tornado crossing a river--because if it's a lake, it's a waterspout).  You wouldn't have debris hitting you, but if you were close to the shore, a big tree could easily fall onto you.

Best suggestion, don't get near one on land OR water!  There's no sure-fire way to survive, other than luck or angels! (if you believe in them)
