  1. YES it is true. I heard on the news that a school was having a contest to see how much water they could drink. One of the contestants drank so much that the water flooded their lungs and they died. So, yes it can definately happen but it's very hard to drink that much.

  2. Yes it's possible. If you run a lot then drink gallons, it could kill you.

  3. I was wondering about this a few months ago.  I heard of a frat boy who was forced to drink an immense amount of water in a short period of time and died.  The following is from Wikipedia.

Water intoxication (also known as hyperhydration or water poisoning) is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain function that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside of safe limits by water.[1] Normal, healthy (both physically and nutritionally) individuals have little to worry about accidentally consuming too much water. Nearly all deaths related to water intoxication in normal individuals have resulted either from water drinking contests, in which individuals attempt to consume more than ten litres over the course of just a few minutes, or long bouts of intensive exercise during which electrolytes are not properly replenished, yet massive amounts of fluid are still consumed.

  4. yes, usually happens in marathon running. You dilute your body of sodium.

  5. I heard that too, in fact i forgot where it was, but a woman died not so long ago from that, so yes it can happen...

  6. Yep

  7. Yes

  8. l never heard that one before

  9. You are not dreaming and it has happened.

The term is called hyponatermia, water intoxication or hyperhydration. This happens when you dilute too much of your body's sodium supply, denying it of electrolytes.

We are supposed to get 64 ounces of water a day, right?

Water intoxication can happen if we drink 10-15 times that required amount and the kidneys are unable to flush the water from the system. It can happen, though, for drinking 5 times the amount if one has the following:

Excessive Sweating: Some of the most famous cases of water intoxication have involved athletes. They got in trouble because they were losing larges amounts of both water and sodium in their sweat but they were replacing their fluid loses with water only. The use of electrolyte solutions instead of water to prevent dehydration reduces the risk substantially.

Binge Drinking: There have been at least two reported cases of people dying from binge drinking as part of drinking contests and fraternity hazing. These deaths were completely preventable.

Drug Use: Water intoxication has occurred in people trying to dilute their urine to pass a drug test. There have been at least two cases of teenagers dying after using ecstasy and then drinking excessive water. Impairment of the kidney’s ability to remove the extra fluid by the drugs (particularly ecstasy) was an important factor in their deaths.

Other Cases: There have been a number of other cases involving giving the wrong intravenous fluids in the hospital, feeding infants water only by mistake, and excessive consumption of beer.

Crazy stuff, huh? Don't try this at home!

  10. no, not uless you dround if you drink to much you body will get rid of it you wil pueck and won't feal good!

  11. definately not true.

  12. There was a case in utah just a year or 2 ago where there was a therapy company who has a method for diciplining your kids by forcing them to drink water.  And a couple was using this form of dicipline on their kid, and she died, and the parrents were charged with murder.  And the parrents turned around and tried to sue the company who had presented the water therapy as a dicipline Idea.  Aparently though, they had made her drink to much water, and she died from it.  Not good.

  13. yeah,  people actually do die from drinking too much water. But only when they chug it or have drinking races.

  14. shoot idk dang that wouldnt be good!!! hahaha sadd

  15. Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia.Water intoxication is most commonly seen in infants under six months of age and sometimes in athletes.Water intoxication and hyponatremia result when a dehydrated person drinks too much water without the accompanying electrolytes.

Its quite rare in adults - the problem is also not as much related to drinking too much - but too much in a short period of time.

  16. Your're not dreaming. A lady died during a radio contest to drink a bunch of water and hold in her pee. It was to win a Wi. Really stupid and really sad.

  17. Yes, it is possible (water intoxication).

Not because drinking water is bad, but because if you drink too much of it in a short period of time it's too much for your organs to handle.

A while a ago a woman died because she drank too much water and did not use the restroom, and her organs could not handle so much water for so long.
