  1. Well, you need to know stuff for jobs, but you don't necessarily need to have a high school diploma and know all of that stuff.

What do you want to do in life? What sort of knowledge do you need to do that? What kind of knowledge do you need to get an apartment, keep track of your finances, etc.? Do you know a healthy way to eat? Do you know how to file taxes? Where to go to get a job? How to get around the city? There's all kinds of stuff you need to know just to LIVE in this world and plenty more you need to know specifically for a job.

  2. I think you are  not a kid but 'kidding' everyone. You would not be able to ask this intelligent question without ever learning the basic reading and writing. If you are able to get into yahoo and ask questions like this  is what I call 'kidding'.

Rarely some end up like  "Bill Gates". Even without any formal education many  have achieved great things. If I were you, I would not  believe that would happen to me but would work  hard. Dreaming at night is not in our control but day dreaming is in our  control and if we rightly dream in the day,  we can go up to great heights.

  3. Not always true.

A "good job" is one you can do, like to some degree and pays enough money to allow you to at least get by, with potential to make more.

Without skills you are going to be limited.

But, to be frank, when I interviewed kids with HS diplomas were like deer in the headlights at my work.

Now, a kid with no great formal education who had a camera and took pictures and understood the parts of a camera and could write enough to fill out a form and do enough simple math to do the form would impress me more, even if they never went to school

You need to be able to read, write, do some math and then have some skills from hobbies or whatever.

If you're totally vapid, you have problems and most of the high school kids I interviewed had an education but were totally vapid.

Work is about following instructions and not goofing off, but doing the job and liking it.

If all you can do is carry heavy things and it pays your way through life that is usually sufficient.

But you need to have some basic skills.

Where I work lifting heavy things is not enough.  You have to know numbers from 1-20 and match 3 to a pallet and match 5 to another pallet

If you can't do that, we don't even want you for heavy lifting.

If you can't write and spell, you can't even fill out an employment application.  So you need to have at least the eqivalent of a 6th grade education to survive in the work place in most instances, otherwise you will be pushing a broom.

A 6th grade education is all that is required to apply for most jobs and do some, if you can follow instructions and not goof fall all day long, we don't like flakes and lazy people.

That, a social security card and picture ID is all that is required, oh yes, you have to be able to pass a drug test.

If you meet those qualifcations you can start off at $15,000 a year and possibly make it up to 25,000 after 10 years and even as much as $40,000 after 20 years.

Do understand, some people with an education start out at $30,000 and go up from there.  That is the big difference in SOME companies.

  4. No....the way you are going....you won't get any

  5. Yes.  You need to know stuff about the world and if you want a decent job you need to learn how to do it.  If you don't do school you'll end up a janitor or garbage person.  Life is all about learning.  Listen to your Aunt and Niece!

    GL!

  6. You need to have an education to get ANYWHERE in life...  Your Aunt and niece are obviously worried about your situation and want the best for you.... they are telling you the truth.

  7. Depends what you mean by 'stuff', what job you want and what any potential employer thinks about the benefits (or not) of 'stuff'.

I don't believe, for a second, that you're learning nothing though, *grin*.

You've obviously learnt the art of expressing yourself and expressing yourself articulately; finding your way around the web at least at a relatively simple level; and even making a flippin' good job of spelling and grammar (more so than heaps of other kids here can apparently manage!).

Methinks you've learnt to use your imagination too, *wink*.

  8. It's true. Although there are so many other ways we could be doing things, there is a system already in place, and it isn't changing any time soon. So, it's in your best interest to focus on the system in place instead of just general wisdom. I've actually known a few homeless people very eloquent in speech, but they didn't concentrate on the system. Although they are obviously intelligent, they are not knowledgeable, and that is what is important in a world with a firmly established system in place. A few Greeks and others got to write the book on many subjects, and now the system "says" we have to learn how they thought of things, instead of learning "how things ought to be." We learn what the "experts" wrote. It's more important to quote someone, I guess, than to be able to come up with your own wise words.

    Learn the system.

Although a person may be intelligent, employers look for paper proof, and this proof is only begotten through accredited academic establishments.

(Oh, but there is one way to get by. If you learn a trade, a skill passed down by someone who already knows it, such as plumbing, welding, or mechanics, you can get by with just knowing only that, and your dad or friend or whoever teaches you the skill isn't going to ask you to get a diploma before they teach you it. So, you can learn a trade, and make a lot of money without having to go through school, too.)

  9. It is true, that knowledge is important to do any job, no matter how simple or complex.  In the past, apprenticeships were a method of learning that involved a master and a student in the particular work.  This still happens to a certain extent.  Also, there are and have been those individuals who have completely taught themselves how to do something and have been very successful....Ben Franklin was one of those persons.  Schools, trade or otherwise are the most common and accepted today for credentials of attending and learning competencies you might achieve.  You can do and be anything you want.....desire drives action....you just have to want it !
