Is it true that you will never find toilet paper in mosque toilets? Even in the USA? If not, why not?

Someone made a blanket statement the other day that you would never find toilet paper in a mosque toilet. Instead there are cleansing facilities available in each booth. I'm wondering if this is true across the board, or just in certain areas. When I asked this person what he based his knowledge on, he said he had been involved in the construction of a mosque in a midwestern capitol city in the USA.

  1. It probably depends on the area, and it's probably more of a cultural thing than a religious thing.  Some cultures find it disgusting that we use toilet paper instead of washing ourselves off.  If you think about for a minute, you can kind of see their point.  I mean, we wash our hands after we use the bathroom, so why not wash the body parts that actually had the stuff directly on them?

  2. I don't think that is true. I do agree that Muslims in general (but not only muslims) prefer to wash; but they still use toilet paper to dry themselves after they washed!

In the Middle East in general, if you don't find toilet paper that is probably because the toilet is not well maintained, not that because they don’t know how to use it!!!

  3. i was in morocco for 7 weeks and just came back.

some toilets there, as i like to call them the squat toilets, you squat down and do your buisness.

sometimes they provide toilet paper. and other times they dont. they give you a hose to sprtay water.

i remember when i came back from morocco to jfk, there was a littlegirl in the bathroom that asked me;; what do we do with this? and she held up the toilet paper
