Question:

Is it true the first few days are always the hardest in xc?

I have done track for two years and I had my first xc practice last thursday. It killed me. I was only a min-distance runner in track and during xc, we started off at a fast pace and I just freaked out 20 minutes in and slowed down ALOT and puked after the run. Next day I was a little better until we were almost done. I slowed down alot again because my stomach was killing me and side stitches. When we finished I was really dizzy. Will I get used to running for an hour after another week? Will I get over the pain and soreness?

  1. yup yup!

CC is so amazing, it is worth the pain it brings

plus, just think of the pain as being that much stronger!

with each painful stride, be reminded that your body is enhancing, and that you are becoming so much stronger! once you run your first race, you will completely be over the soreness, and the adrenaline with pump so fast, and you will hit a runners high, and let me tell you, that is a beautiful thing!...

  2. Well with it being all summer you probably weren't running like this so at first your body isn't use to running this much.  The more you do it the easier it will become and the dizziness is simply because you are lacking fluids in your body.  I am currently training for a marathon and there has been a couple times where I went out for a long-run and when I got back home I was dizzy because I was almost dehydrated.  Cross Country is a great time so hopefully you get use to it.

  3. SOUNDS LIKE YOUR COACH DOESNT KNOW WHAT THE F HE'S DOING!!!!!!!!!

  4. last year thats almost exactly what happened to me but dont worry thats the worst it starts to get better it took me a couple weeks to get used to it its still hard and a work out but its fun its waay different than track i find track easier just so u know but hey i also love xc its fun for the pain and soreness i would try ice and heat they both help good luck!

  5. Yeah, it's really hard the first couple weeks, but it gets better and it actually starts to be fun (shocking, I know lol) I almost wanted to quit last year when I started but it got easier after a while.

Make sure you're taking at least one day off a week and ur hydrating during your runs! (That's really important. This one girl on my xc team forgot a waterbottle and after 3 miles she threw up. Also, stretching is reallyimportant too, no matter how tight your muscles are.

    Good luck!

  6. you'll get used to it but it might take 2-3 weeks

  7. yeah u will get used to it.. the harder u push yourself the more u get used to it as well.. i remember track practices were always harder than xc but then again i was always trained for long distance although i did run the 800m and 1600m but mostly trained for 2mile... just water up and make sure u eat healthy... your stamina is just down a little right now but yeah u should take it easy at first when u come back and then intensify it and never look back... soreness and pain will go away
