  1. According to most surces, the Queen's *personal* fortune is around 300 million pounds, but she also has the use of property  worth billions which she holds in trust for the state.

An example is her art collection. During her life she has use of and control over this collection, whcih is valued at many millions of pounds, but it is technically 'owned' by the State.

While this may seem unfair (why can't *I* look at the nice pictures, too?), the fact is that if the State was to demand possession of this art collection, it would have to be suitably accommodated, security provided and so on. So having it remain in the Queen's care is a realistic and suitable way of ensuring the collection remains in good condition and is available for public showings when required.

The Queen gives the State quite a lot of money one way and another ~ for example, properties such as Windsor Castle and Kensington Palace, which the State owns but which she uses and maintains, generate revenue for the State.

Additionally, she surrenders a sizeable chunk of her annual income in exchange for State funding of the 'Civil List' ~ so, while it appears that the State 'pays' the Queen and her family, she could actually be seen as giving the State the money to make these payments.

In 1992, it was announced that the Queen would pay income tax from the following financial year. Prince Charles had already been paying some tax on his Welsh property before then. Doubtless, like almost every other wealthy person, she has a team of hard working accountants minimising her tax burden!

And, as well as property, she also owns a number of businesses, including farming and food businesses, horse studs and other income generators which employ people who are taxed.

Add to this the amount of money generated by the royal family as tourist attractions (and newspaper sellers), and it adds up to quite a considerable sum for the UK economy.

    Cheers :-)

  2. It's highly likely that the Queen has more than $6 billion. It's extremely difficult to trace due to generations of subterfuge by the royal family.

No, contrary to a rumour that seems to be in circulation, she does not pay income tax. Her son, Crackpot Charlie, pays tax at the lowest UK rate on the declared profits of the Duchy of Lancaster; paying at the lowest rate rather than the normal tax bands represents a massive saving to him and a massive loss to the people of the UK.

  3. No and yes,

The Queen is not a dollar billionaire (checked out Forbes.com), She regualrly features in the Sunday Times Rich list but not among the top 20 or so, she is a multi-millionaire but not a billionaire. She doesn't own most of her properties (Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle belong to the state, although she does own Balmoral and Sandringham).

  4. i would be very wealthy if i didn't have to pay bills.the state takes care of her upkeep.

  5. Yes & Yes

  6. No - and no.

Like every family of social scroungers the 'Windsors' live in a house owned by the government and spend every penny we give them every year.
